Ride quality 2WD vs. 4WD

Noticed this over the past week or so.

My 2WD XL rides MUCH rougher than 4WD F150's I've driven.

Any particular reason for this in the F150?

And, is there a way I can make the ride quality of my truck better than it is currently? I'm open to pretty much any suggestions.

Not sure why 4X4s would have a softer ride as they tend to get stiffer shocks. However if you want a softer ride in the 2wd, put some softer shocks in.

It's not necessarily 'softer' but the overall ride quality seems better in a 4wd compared to my 2wd. It's a stiff ride in both, but the 2wd seems to be very jarring over bumps where the 4wd isn't as jarring when going over bumps.

It almost feels like the rear end of my 2wd is hopping when I hit some bumps, and I don't feel this in the 4wd.

What shocks might you reccomend? Are the Bilsteins better than stock as far as ride quality goes?

Tires and air pressure makes a huge difference also.

My 2wd '03 7700 extended cab work truck rides WAY better than my 4wd '99 reg cab (both have Load Range E tires). I think the coil springs and the longer wheelbase on the 2wd make most of the difference.

Tire pressure, Load range of the tires, worn shocks, and truck weight can all an affect on ride quality. We may be comparing apples to oranges...

35psi, standard load tires, suspension is good(checked it already), and whatever the weight of a regular cab short bed 2WD F150 is.

Maybe I'm still getting used to it from having driven cars up until I bought this truck.

I still might upgrade the shocks and possibly add a leveling kit soon.

The "jarring" over bumps and stuff I would say is from how light your 2wd is vs a 4wd. Bilstiens are great shocks and they are far better than the stockers. You can get them in a few different models to suit your taste. Also Wandell is right on the money (like always) tires and pressure are huge, should have said something before.

What are some good vendors to get the Bilsteins from? I know I can't get them from any of the parts suppliers I deal with at work.
