Determining if you have the heavier springs from the towing package

If you purchased a truck used how can you tell if you have the heavier springs that was part of (or optional?) with the factory ford towing package?

I have the factory towing package on my 02 150 4x4 supercrew but Im trying to determine if it also has the heavier springs. Im not sure how to tell. I wouldnt have thought there would be an additional leaf, just higher tensile strength in the leafs that are present.

Thanks

According to Ford literature, the towing package did not include heavier springs (in those model years; I'm not sure about '04-up.)

It included: receiver hitch, 7-pin wiring harness, heavy-duty shocks, heavier duty battery, auxiliary transmission cooler for the 4.6, or larger auxiliary tranny cooler for the 5.4.

It was also supposed to include a larger radiator, but didn't...long story...big to-do over that back in those day, including either threats of, or actual, class-action lawsuits.

I have an '01 with factory tow package, and still have my purchase-related literature, brochure, etc.

Note: your 4x4 might have heavier springs than a 4x2 like mine, but that is not really related to the towing package.

Thanks for the information. Maybe I was confusing the heavier shocks with the springs.

On a side note, do the 4x2's in fact have softer leaf springs?

look on the bottom of your overload and get me the part number and I can tell you exactly what your spring is and its capacity
