Handling effects of 6" lift on road - don't want a wallowing Buick . .

Been wearing out the search button checking out all the lifts - getting ready to make the jump.
I'm considering a fabtech 6" lift for 06 screw. I added a rear hellwig sway bar a couple yrs ago and liked the way it tightened the truck up in corners - now I guess I'll lose that gain. ?

I suspect the lift and larger tires will be a handling trade off, but I spend all my days running the roads (contractor/owner) and hope the lift kit won't promote too much body roll. Many have said the ride still feels stock - does that apply to cornering ?

I know it's not a sports car, but anyone regret their lift based on poor road handling manners ? (ps- This thing will never go off road)
thanks,
Doc

I will try not to write a novel.

First of all, if you have any fab skills, I am sure you could make a drop down style braket for your rear sway bar. That would help keep that "tight" feel.

Also, Fabtech offers a great kit, the ride is very close to stock, if not exactly the same. Same cornering ? No, but similiar. You have lifted the truck 6" (plus some). These trucks are VERY heavy, with the taller truck, comes a taller center of gravity, which will equal less in the handling department. Can I take turn at fast speed, peeling out ? Of course, with out a problem. I think you will be pleasently surprised at how well the truck accepts these 6" lifts.

Also, for what your asking, you may want to go ahead and shell out for the Dirt Logic coilovers. These will stiffen the ride up slightly, and give a much closer feel to what you are looking for, in my honest opinion. Tires will also play a huge roll in handling. Get some huge mud terrain with real soft compound, its gunna wana move and give more (spungy feel) where a stiffer more road-friendly tire, will give better handling and feedback of road conditions. Your gunna wana do some research for tires, as I wouldn't know which would be best for this situation. I would think something like BFG a/t, or Nitto Terra graplers would work great.

Good luck to you. Have any specific question you want to ask me, feel free to e-mail me at Euroauto@sonic.net

I say go for it! Call Josh at sportztrailers. He'll hook you up with a smoking deal. (866) 922-0093 Ext.107 You may want to think about the dual steering stabilizer up front as well.

I think the biggest change in handling comes from the bigger tires people get after they lift it.

I'm one of the guy's that says that the ride was pretty much the same as stock after the lift. On my 03 at least. Even with the 3in body lift i just put on it feels pretty good.

BINGO!

All things considered, I think you you'd be more than pleased with coilovers and a great pair of rear shocks to compliment them.

Tires will make a big difference in handling and traction, i only have a 3.5" lift but with my BFG tires i drive my truck harder and faster on turns than with stock tires

I just installed a 6in. fabtech kit with dirt logic coilovers with dirt logic rear shocks with Toyo M/t 35x12.50 x20 tires . I Honestly, think it handles better now than when I had the 2 1/2" leveling kit with factory wheels and tires . I know the angles are better. http://www.f150online.com/forums/mem...-img-0164.html

thanks for the advice guys !
What a shopping process this is playing out to be. It's fun, but by the time I've looked at hundreds of threads and every suspension, tire and wheel site i can find, my taste evolves to where I need to start over since I like a different look.
This is emotional "gotta like the look stuff". Whew - acting like my wife shopping for shoes or something.

soooo . . . for tires I'm thinking 35 Terra Graplers so far. I should get a more street tread but I think the truck looks better with some tire "attitude". I won't ask anymore questons . . back to the search button. . .

ps- you guys posting these new lift installed pics are killing me . . anyone from Maryland on this site-I'd like to see a fabtech / coilover lift
(ps - don't hold the Maryland thing against me, I'm not a liberal)

I know how ya feel. I knew I was going Fabtech, I knew I was going real aggressive tread... the wheels took me FOREVER to finally pick out a set. Take your time, its a big expense, and something you gotta look at.... a lot !

Feel free to ask some questions, most don't mind. Some guys are hardcore "Search Nazi's" and others remember what its like being new here. There is a wealth of info on this site, and you will quickly learn who the guys are to ask for real help from.

Terra Grapplers would do ya goo, IMO, and be pretty darn street friendly (compared to other aggressive tires).
