Another bilstein 5100 question..

So i already hav these shox on my 05 f150 and iv decided that i want to adjust them 2 in so i can clear bigger tires i just got. When i took it to my local 4x4 shop they said that these shocks cudnt be put on a 2 inch setting to get mor lift out of them?? Also are there any other places where you can hav these shocks put on the 2 inch setting besides 4x4 shops? thanks

They have to be removed from the truck to adjust.

Do you have spacers installed? If you have spacers installed they are only looking out for your best interests. If you don't have spacers and your shocks are truly 5100's, they can be adjusted off the truck.

You also don't have to go to a shop...you could do it yourself at home, but as mentioned, they have to come off the truck and you'd have to rent a spring compressor from Autozone...none of which is a big deal. Also as mentioned, make sure they truely are 5100's. Look through the coil spring at the body of the shock. There should be two additional grooves in the shock body that run full circle around the shock. I'm not sure if you can even see them but take a look. If you have those grooves, those are the grooves for the spring perch ring, and thus you truely have the 5100's.

two additional grooves? My 5100 struts only came with two grooves period... a stock setting and a 2" setting....

did not mean to highjack

I'd start by verifying they are the 5100's...

Cheers

OK, yea I think that could be right also. I thought the 5100 for this truck had a 1" and a 2" ring, but could be wrong.
