37's and lots of questions. HELP!

Hey guys i would first like to say this is an amazing site. I have been lurking these boards for a few months now and i have learned so much valuable information.

ok now to the questions.. right now i have an 06 almost bone stock screw aside from maggie duals and some 265/70/17's mud tires. I am absolutely in love with the look of the 37" mud grapplers after seeing many of the trucks around this site. The only part that worries me is the MPG situation. would it help out a little if i got a lighter 18" wheel instead of a 19"+ wheel? if i got a 6" lift and a 2" leveling kit would i be able to fit the 37"? i wont be jumping my truck or anything too crazy so would a pro comp lift be alright? Finally, is there really a big loss in MPG when you go for a 37" tire instead of a 35" tire? i know everyone is sick and tired of hearing MPG questions, but this is the only thing that is holding me back..good thing the price for gas in my area dropped from 3.95 to 3.59 in just under 2 weeks!

if your worried about MPG, i'd just stick with 35s. is your truck 4wd or 2wd? knowing that will help determine what kinda lift you need to fit what tires..

from what i've read, the Pro Comp 6" is a decent lift and will let you run 35" tires. I'm not positive, but i THINK if you get one of the 6" lifts and get the Bilstein adjustable shocks you might be able to fit 37" tires. i pretty sure someone here has done it, i just can't really remember who..as for the leveling kit though, i'm assuming that'd work just the same as the Bilstein shocks? hopefully one of the '04+ guys will chime in soon to give you more info.

and yes, usually a smaller rim means less weight.. but i dont think it'd be enough of a difference since you'll already have larger tires that will weigh significantly more than your stockers. but an A/T tire will usually weigh less than a M/T tire though

if mileage is even an issue, i would reconsider 37's, you'll maybe get around 14 mpg with gearing and that depends on who you talk to. you can add a leveling kit but i would do the pro comp stage 1 and add the bilsteins at the 2 inch marker, making you up a total of 8 inches, just safer IMO. make sure you regear or your mileage probably will be lucky to make it into the double digits. 18's and 20's dont make much difference it weight either. im getting 14 or so with 35's and stock gearing and a light foot. look in the 04 to present forum, alot of threads on 37's.

If you go 37s you have to regear. If you dont you will be looking in the single digits for MPGs but if you do you will be looking anywhere from 10-14. Just depends on the way you drive. IMO if you are concerned about MPGs just stick with the 35s and get some sick rims

u can run 37's with a Pro comp stage II lift if you want to stick with that brand. Between 37's or 35's, your mileage will suck regardless. Around town you truck will absolutely struggle to get up to speed. ON the highway your mileage will be pretty good on 0 degree grades. Any hills at all and you are going to 8 mpgs and listen to your transmission scream in agony. Regear it. I have 4.88's and 35's with the clearance to run 37's. Pick the tire you want. You will absolutely love your truck after you regear. It's worth it. Trust me.

alright guys thanks so much for the help. The only problem with re gearing is i dont have the money to do it just yet. Ive been saving my money all summer to get my truck the way i want it and i know i wont have enough money till next summer to regear because college baseball starts up in august and i wont be able to work much till next may. do you think running 35's or 37's will be ok on the tranny until i get enough money to regear? i really dont want to screw up my truck.

yeah go with the 37s mpg will suck anyways with out re gearing i got 11mpg and when i do re gear it aint going to change much anyways but yeah if u do run 37s dont be giving it a lot of gas of the line and **** like that just take it slow and it really wont do much to your tranny and dont take it out mudding or off road either until you do re gear i also have 37s in my sig so you can see what it looks like on my truck

I'm running 37" tires. I regeared. All my mileage is in town which averages 13. After having 37's, I could never downsize to 35's. I just take it easy on the gas pedal.
