Alright I just ordered Precision Gears 4.88 front and rear with master install kits from Reider Racing for 525 shipped. I'm gonna tear the diffs apart either this weekend or early next week and bring them in to a friend to get everything regeared. Hopefully by the end of next week or beginning of the week after, I *should* be all set. After that I'm not touch the underside of the truck for awhile . I just want everything to run without breaking/needing work for a month or so so I can relax.

what happend to 445 shipped?? oh well, still not a bad price. let us know how it works out!
did you ever call any local places to see how much they'd charge for an install? im on the fence of how long to wait before i do it
The guy i called up the other day told me wrong. That deal is only for the 8.8 rear, the 9.75 is a little more. I haven't called any places up because I'm having a friend of a friend do it for next to nothing.
It's been one thing after another the last week or so. First they billed me $70.00 MORE than what the agreed price was. That took a few calls to finally get sorted out. They kept saying yeah they'd do it untill after the 3rd or 4th call they finally got the memo and credited my account. Now I'm finding out the install kits they shipped me didn't come with everything needed, and even had some wrong sized parts and what not. The guy doing my gears just called to tell me that he needed new axle bearings and front pinion seal + bearing for the rear end (I think, I didn't quite follow everything he said) because none of the **** that came with the kit worked. He had some trouble with the install kit for the front as well, but managed to make everything work. I'm pissed because I practically spelled it out to ReiderRacing exactly what I needed for the install kit (mid 00 - later 9.75). I should have known because they shipped what appeared to be the wrong one, but after calling them they said that the box was mislabeled and that the model number was correct. I guess not. I haven't had the truck for a week. ReiderRacing is closed on weekends so i have to wait till Monday to get this **** sorted out, and at this rate it'll probably be another week before I can get back down to Orlando for school.

edit, just started the truck up b/c it hasnt been run in a week and now I've got a CEL
my life motto at this point - if it ain't one thing, it's another
Hate to hear that about your gears man that sucks I just bought me a 1984 Trx-200 Four wheeler (cheap) so it`ll be awhile before I get gears probably when tax refunds come around next year, there is still a good bit of tread left on my tires so I`m gonna run them longer and get my moneys worth out of them before I regear, I figured I would get me a 4 wheeler because I can ride all day on a $8 worth of gas and when I go wheelin in my truck about 30min and 1/4 tank is gone big difference in what you pay to play, keep us posted on what shakes out with the gears
I think the CEL is from a misfire I've had on plug 4. I was in a hurry the other day and just replaced the COP but not the plug itself. That seemed to fix it for a week or so, but lately it's started to run a little rough again, so I'll just change the plug. The other plugs/cops should be fine, I replaced all of them just over 6 months ago.
I was getting anywhere from 8 - 10mpg on stock 3.55 gears. My speedometer/odometer was off, so it's a little hard to say exactly what it was. I just got the front/rear diffs back tonight, and I'm planning to have this truck running by the end of tomorrow. I'll let you know what the mpg is then.
Yeah I just hit the 500 mile mark the other day, so now I need to drain the oil and put some back in. It feels better than stock now, I love it. Power right on tap.

Cashel, you have the exact same setup as I do, except for the gears. I am running a set of 4.56 Perceision(sp) Gears front and rear. I am currently getting 12.5 in the city and 15 on the highway with a tune. And was wondering what your MPG rating was.
