Question towing with a lift?

I have a 2001 f150 supercab 4x4. I would love to get a lift kit since i could really use it for some of the places i need to get to for work. also would love to start trying to do some off roading. I was wondering if it's possible to get a 4 inch lift and still be able to tow when needed and what would be the best tires for it when in snow. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

i have a 97 w/ a 7inch lift and still tow 5-6k trailers regularly. the only thing u need to look out for is the blocks for the rear axle can cause axle wrap. use new leafs, an add a leaf, or traction bars with the blocks and you will be set. you will need to regear though for sure.

I got a 3.5" lift on 35's and tow a 6k 2 horse regularly...no problems I didn't even re-gear (probably should though she's not that great on on-ramps lol) but other than that no-problems w/ a 3.73 LS. One thing you gotta watch out for is Diff-Temp get the gauge its worth the money, that and tranny temp. Just bigger tires, more mass to move, so its gonna run a little warmer. Main problem I had was finding a drop-down to fit (8" works for 5-6" of lift in the rear) and w/ my 2" AAL in the rear I sit butt up a little bit buts thats because its normally got some weight in the back then it levels out.

X2. Definately regear. The tires alone are going to put a good amount of stress on the tranny. Towing with the truck is going to be even worse for it.

if your pulling any large amount of weight say above 3k I would say that traction bars are a must to keep the rear from axle wrapping , I tow 2k with out and have no problems

In the winter i operate snowcats at our local ski resort in northwest new jersey. In the summer we use trucks to do trail maintenance. there are a lot of rocks and areas that are washed out from snow melting. there are a few company trucks but most of us prefer to use our own since gas is compinsated for. we mostly just tow small loads though.

I'm in Hamburg. (wish i was in Utah!) first of all, thanks everyone for your help. second, would it be possible to tow with a body lift instead of a suspension lift? just found out it would be around $2000 to get it installed and i doubt i could do it myself.

towing with a body lift in my opinion would be better, no blocks to deal with no axle wrap. your trailer hitch is just going to stick down a little more, you will still have a loss of power from the larger tires unless you do a gear swap but thats anything you put larger tires on. if your going to do a body lift you need to get gap gaurds or make a set otherwise it just won't look right
