Front end feeling a little clunky, what to check?

The front end of my 2006 4X4 is transmitting a little bit of clunkiness through the steering wheel. It's something that probably wouldn't be noticed by someone unfamiliar with the truck. It has 55,000 trouble free miles on it.

I want to hear from others who have had to replace things in the front suspension on this model. What do I need to check and how do I need to check it? Ball joints? CV joints? whatever.

Thanks in advance.

Also, the 4X4 light doesn't want to work anymore, but it seems the truck is still going in 4X4 when the on the fly switch is turned to 4X4, just no light comes on.

Thanks again.

I'd check the ball joints first.
