Torsion bar question

Does anyone know why on the F150 and on the 97 to 99 F250 the torsion bars are different lengths. I have a 2003 F150 4x4 sc s/b, mine appear to be the short ones??? By putting the longer one in, are thay better or what???

I'm not exactly sure why they are longer, but the F-250 LD and F-150 7700 torsion bars are stiffer (made for the heavier duty trucks). If you install them on your truck they can give you a similar effect as a torsion key would.

The torsion bars on the Supercrews are shorter to provide better ride quality. The F-250/7700 trucks have thicker bars to provide more load carrying capacity.

You can put the longer ones in there, you just have to move the brackets back farther on the frame. The holes are already in your frame so its a piece of cake.I had the ex version 99 f150 So I had the long ones and I put the 7700 bars in mine and I thought it actually rode smoother then the stock half ton ones did but I don't know how they compare to the shorts like you have ride quality wise.

From 2003Cougar, I think I may be able to help you. I am swaping springs and torsion bar from a 99F250 (7700 GVW). This truck has the longer torsion bars. The spring code is B6 and you will need the last eight digits of the VIN, it is XKB55025. This should answer your question
