Unhappy State Trooper Says Its Too High!

I got a ticket on Saturday for having a truck that is 7" over the legal limit in VA (bottom of bumpers). I knew this but it never has really stopped me. Oh well, I'll keep on truckin' anyway.

Cool

Dang, wish you were standing next to your truck so I can get an idea of how tall that thing is. It looks good.

In GA the law is..."unlawful to alter the suspension system of any truck with a GVWR of 4500lbs or less...blah, blah...so as to exceed 27 inches as measured from the surface of the street to the lowest point on the frame of the truck"...

Using my butt-o-meter, I would say that I could legally lift about 3" (maybe...but if I put on 33's...oh boy). That's what prompted me to get a reference.

...again, nice truck!

What is the fine and/or consequence of such a grevious assault upon the citizenry of your fair state?

A custom bumper will look alot better anyways IMO. You can do it up with lights front reciever hitch or a winch mount

YOu know what you need to do is get the bottom bumper off an Excursion. Figure a way to mount one front and rear and then tell the cops it is legal! Heck, it is OEM from Ford!

It looks like a nerf bar up under the front facia. Just an idea for you.

I live in georgia north of Atlanta where you must drive a lifted truck, And I know many people who have trucks with 38 inch or bigger tires (many have 44's) and they do not seem to have any problems with the law or getting tickets. It must be one of those laws that cops don't worry about (at least in GA - sorry about CT).

snowball,

I saw your pics on your most recent post, and I have to say you don't realize just how tall it is until you see someone next to it. I'd love to have a similar setup one day. I'm just curious as to what you intend to do if anything? Years ago, I was in a similar situation when I dropped a V8 in a mini truck. It wasn't smog legal in California and I had just move from Arizona. It sucks to drive around knowing that a cop could drive by at any moment and ticket you. Kinda takes the enjoyment out of it. I'm sure others would like to know what you do to resolve this. Good Luck.

>>>>Just thought I'd mention, someone suggested to lower or alter your bumpers. In Virginia on a raised or lowered truck if the bumpers are altered from factory specs the officer is supposed to measure the height from the bottem of the frame rails.

Actually, measurements are made to the bottom of the bumper, factory or not, if the bumper has not been lowered from the factory point. The law has changed, it used to be if you altered your bumper then measurements were made to the frame. Now you must lower it in order for that to happen. Therefore, if I was to put custom bumpers on it that are very large they couldn't touch it. This is from experience a few times with some other trucks. Still it is too much trouble. Oh well, I no longer give a $%@&.
