Post Hey Dirt can you advise

I just bought 1997 F150 XLT 4.6 V8 2WD. It has 53,250 miles and would like to have the 60K done now. I have contacted Ford dealers to Independent service the pricing for this is all over the place. From 199.99-600.00. Also what work will be performed and or required is all over the place. I am in San Diego who does a honest 60K. I want the best and most complete service for the buck.

hiya Danrube,

Congrats on your new truck! Well since i have a 2000 i havent had any experience getting work done (knock on wood) that wasnt aftermarket mods. I do know that Pearson Ford is recognized as a four-star dealership for service center customer satisfaction. Actually, they ranked very high in all of CA too. I would start there. You might save some money taking it to a non-Ford service place..but i would personally think if they screwed something up,you'd have alot better chance of getting it rectified at a Dealership. I just looked up the 60,000 mile maintenance schedule for you. Here is the run down...

60,000 mile maintenance schedule~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Change engine oil and oil filter

Inspect brake pads/shoes/rotors/drums,brake
lines and hoses,and parking brake

Inspect cooling system and hoses

Inspect exhaust system and heatshields

Inspect steering linkage, suspension, and if equipped driveshafts and balljoints

Inspect tires for weak and rotate

Replace engine air filter

Replace fuel filter

Replace cabin air filter,if equipped

Changeautomatic transmission fluid on all vehicles with AX4S, AX4N, 4R70W, 4R100, 4F27E ..otherwise inspect fluid

(Additional needs for Light trucks at 60,000 below)

Inspect and lubricate 4x2 ball joints

Lubricate 4x2 wheel bearings, replace grease seals, and adjust bearings

Changfe manual tranny fluid

Inspect and lubricate steering linkage

Thats right from Fords "Scheduled Maintenance Guide". You could print that up and run the list by whoever you are interested in taking the truck too...then compare prices. Ive gotta run for now...Hope this helps!
