Angry sunroof won't close - its raining

Every sunroof I've owned to date (Audi A4, Taurus SHO, Buick Regal Tirbo, etc.) has had a manual crank to close it when the power fails.

Today I had my SCRew sitting in the driveway when it started to look like rain. It would not close under power - it seems to be jammed full open. The CB seems OK becasue I can here a moaning when I hit the open button, but there no noise whn I hit the close.

I'm off to Fairway Ford tomorrow to leave it with 'em but I'm curious if anyone has had the problem and anyone every have occasion to ask Ford about a manual crank?

By the wau right now I have the opening covered with Tyvek and duct tape.

Hey guardrail,
I am here in G-ville and was curious what you think about the service at Fairway. I bought my SCrew in NC and have taken it to D&D for the seatbelt recall and an oil change. They seem pretty good, butwanted your take on dealers for service. Let us know about the roof, today is a bad day for a hole in the roof.

I had the exact same problem with mine. The symptoms were just as you stated. Fortunately I was able to garage it until I could get it to the dealership. After they looked at it they told me that the control module went bad and that they needed to order a new one. It took over a week for them to get the new parts. They were able to get it closed for me, and it was inoperable until I could get it back into the dealership. I didn't ask how to close it, I was pretty frustrated with the whole situation. Apparently this is a very big job. It seemed like they had to open up everything to gain the necessary access. It took a couple of days to get fixed. The first replacement unit they tried to install did not work, so they had to order me another one. Just doesn't seem like something that should be happening to a brand new truck. At least now everything is fine and working properly.

I had the same thing happen seven days after I took delivery, my dealer is great, the day it happened it was forecast to rain and looked ominous.... took the truck that afternoon and worked on it. I had it back the next day.

That was July... I had just gotten over the ever-present thinking about whether it would get stuck open every time I opened it when... I got to work today and it wouldn't close..... took it to the dealer, they are working on it.... I have a loaner car (a UPS-Truck brown Taurus - geez, Dale may not drive the truck, but I am today) and the dealer will be delivering it back to me tonight or tomorrow.

You are right, it is a major effort to work on it, no manual crank.. I had the misfortune of needing something from my truck the first time they worked on it.. I walked back to retrieve it.... Headliner was laying on the floor behind the truck and the weatherseals and plastic trim pieces on the A and B pillars were off. Not a sight I particularly enjoyed seeing since my Screw was only 7 days old..........................

logical,

Sorry about that, it might be chestnut, but think about the difference in looks between a KR two tone and an all brown taurus..... I have seen the KR in chestnut and like it.... but this Taurus..... the must have known they couldn't sell it and stuck it in the rentals.

Checked with my dealer, this time, ordering an entire new sunroof package, replacing all the hardware. Still will have to take apart the interior.....

dealer called and said they got it closed becasue there was a broken connection in the controls. They say they will have it until Wed. or Thur.

They've ordered three things, one being a new headliner - so much for Tyvek and duct tape.

FYI - I've been with Fairway for +/- 15 years, since my 89 SHO. Always been happy - but when you put that much thru they tend to keep you happy.

I had the same problem, same symptoms. Screw was 2 months old,2000 miles, moonroof stuck open. Took it to dealer, they said motor was shot, would order a new one. Also, there was no way to manually crank close the moonroof. Well they replaced the motor, but the moonroof would only close halfway. The dealer ordered an entire moonroof assy, it went national back order, then arrived a week later. The dealer installed the new moonroof assy, and it closed. I hope this does not fail again. I see no reason why the quality of Ford products is what it is!

the quality problem traces directly to Jaques Nassar and Jack Trotman. Two guys in a row who understand nothing about building a good car.

Guardrail,

I agree with you 100%!! Ford products have always been know for domestic auto quality - until the last few years that is. I dont have an S-crew, but do have an Expedition w/ the moonroof. The truck is now 1.5 years old wity 24,000 miles and the moonroof has stuck open on it twice. I figure the S-crews have the same moonroof assembly as the X. First time i happened the truck was 4 months old with about 5,000 miles. The second time the truck was right at 1 year with 19,000 miles. Extream fustration is the only way to describe my feelings without using four letter words. Not to mention the incompetence at the Ford dealership. Anyway, each time the entire headliner has to be removed to repair the roof. Just waiting for headliner to start to come out from place. Went ahead and bought the extended warranty on this truck. Have never felt like i ever needed it on Ford products before, but I have a feeling it will pay for itself this time.
