Tire sizes and gas mileage

There have been a number of msgs about tire sizes and gas mileage posted. I found this cool site to calculate the revs/mi for the optional Screw tire sizes. If you are planning to buy custom tires, you can plug in your custom size and see how it will differ from your current tires.

Note that the 255/70-16 and 275/60-17 are essentially the same size but the other two are bigger. This could explain the differences that people are seeing for their speeds at 2k rpm.

Specification: Dia. Revs/Mi Diff
255/70-16 30.1 671 0%
265/70-17 31.6 638 5.2%
275/60-17 30.0 672 -0.2%
275/70-17 32.2 627 7.0%

Thumbs up

Great link, ScrewnStLou! Thanks.
I knew my 305's were around 10% bigger than stock. This shows that it's 9.2%.
