Now that is wuss driving and has probably lead to more than one episode of road rage!
Previously my '01 SCrew 5.4 was getting ~11-12 mpg with travel time split 50/30/20 (highway/city/off road). I just finished replacing plugs and doing some other maintenance and will be curious if I get an increase.
HAHA! Don't mind being called a wuss driver. I am about due for a complete tune up, hopefully that will increase my mpg... maybe 18.5? Crosses fingers!
Been driving like GranMa until I see what the 2001 Screw with the 5.4 gets driving 31 miles R/T to work. Just put my first tank of 89 in it last Tuesday. I have scheduled for my mechanic to go over all the necessary items like smoothing out the idle at stops, rear drive fluid, plugs etc. Then I will check mileage using the same drive and report back to you all then on both. The truck had 203 plus on it when I bought it. I will be looikin to replace the driver seat which is the only thing that had to be covered with an OEM cover
My 2001 5.4 SCrew went through it's first tank of 89 octane since I bought it a week ago with 203,000plus on it. 343 surface and expressway and got 15.77 mpg. I am very happy since it won't be till Thursday before my mechanic gives her the once over.
My 01 Screw gets 14-16 in town and 17-18 on the Highway. No hurry and lots of cruise.
Dropping my speed from 68 to 60 gains me 0.5-0.7 mpg. It has stayed about the same since new.

yea im in the Scab model with a '97 bone stock minus the gotts mod on the 4.6 and im getting an average of 11, and the rare 13.

Just an update. I now have 19,700 on the truck and the mileage has stayed pretty well the same as when I first posted. I have never reset the Fuel Economy register and the truck has averaged 19.4 over the 19,700 miles. I did a test a couple of weeks ago, and stop and go driving in downtown Fort Worth, even going through some "stop and wait" construction, I averaged 17.5 for 63 miles. My absolute best so far is a trip down Interstate 45, cruise set at 68, perfect weather, 22.7. I use two tanks per week, and for a tank, I average anywhere from 19.1 to 20.5, depending on weather and how much in town driving there was. I don't rabbit start, but no sluggard either. I like to get up and go, so I am not really driving for mileage, and I will get up to 80 or so when passing on the highway. I do love to occasionally stomp it to hear that exhaust roar( I used to do a lot of drag racing).
The truck is completely stock, with 3.55s and has never had anything but Texaco, Chevron, Shell or QT in it, all 87 octane.
BTW, I keep a meticulous spreadsheet of every purchase, and the computer mileage is always dead on with the actual math. That is, except where I had to tell one station that thier pump I was using was off by over a gallon in 22 gallons. They got it recalibrated. LOL
Update to my previous mileage, I am still averaging about 11 after a mild tuneup (new plugs, filters, etc.) and a Gott's type mod. On my longest road trip to date (~200 miles) I averaged 14.8 mpg driving a bit like a grandpa (55 on an interstate with an 80 limit) because I had a coil over going out and could not accelerate very hard or maintain higher speeds.
Right now I figure I must be getting somewhere around 5-6mpg going up in the mtns, no real 4x4, just getting up and out. I need to figure out how to improve this mileage, I will not be able to go far one do much if I don't.
So you don't need to find my previous post; 2001 Screw with 120,000 on the clock of a 5.4. Stock except for the Gott's.

I'm sorry in advance for being a little long winded....I have a 2011 Supercrew Lariat 4x4 with the 6.2, max tow and 3.73's. I had factory skid plates installed. I have a Undercover hardshell tonnoue (spdell check) cover on the bed. A volant cold air intake (which I modified). and a complete Stainlessworks exhaust system (long tube headers, high flow cats, X-pipe, and true duals with chambered mufflers. And Cooper Discoverer AT3's (if you think that may make a differance).
50-55 mph, flat road good conditions, good weather, I can get 24 mpg. But usually average about 21-22 mpg.
60-65 mph (Usually 65, sometimes I hit 70), on my trips out to Keyser West Virginia (From northern Delaware-301 south over the bay bridge to 97 north, to100 north, to I70 west, to I68 west to Cumberland, MD, to 220/50 into Keyser), which is about a 265 mile trip, up and down mountains along the way (some elevations are as much as 1,400-1,500 feet above sea level) I average 20-21 mpg.
Around town running errands, short trips to post office, market, etc. usually avearge 13-14 mpg. If I take it reeeeeal easy I can average 15-16 mpg.
My Travel Trailer- 33ft. Keystone Bullet Premier which has a dry weight of about 5980 lbs.. This month will be a year that I've owned it! But My back as been so bad this past year that I even haven't used it yet. But, I've towed it several times back and forth from the dealer to have various things done to it. I bought it in Gambrill, MD.. It's all highway and about a 90-100 mile trip. This was back before I installed the cold air intake and the exhaust system. I was averaging 12-13 mpg while towing it. How do these numbers sound to you guys? I posted some pics of my information centers display in my albums section to back up some of the claims.
