85 octane

took a trip out to utah this past weekend from california towing my race car. when getting gas there wasn't any 87 only 85. the truck is complete stock 01 super crew w/ 5.4 2wd. i used the 85, it didn't ping or anything so i assume it was good. i'm curious if 85 is used because of the higher elevation. or did i just officially screw myself.

At higher elevations, like here in WY, 85 octane is the equivalent to your 87 (it's all covered in your truck's manual). The truck probably ran better on the 85 since it's not a PRK "special" blend.

thanks for the response. i was a bit concerned for a minute. though with the higher elevations i noticed i had to open up the throttle more to get moving. but overall i didn't really have much issues.
