If an extra 6" of truck worries you about parking, turning, etc... then you shouldn't be looking at a full size truck to start with.

A 6.5 ft bed is the only way to go. What is the point of buying a truck if you can't fit anything in the bed. Not to mention, the bed extenders are a royal PITA. My brother-in-law has a Screw with the 5.5 bed and hates it. Loves the truck, hates the small bed.

You will get used to driving, parking, etc in a few days, it is only 6" we are talking about here.

give us a break...

1)a vehicle either fits in a parking space, including a garage, or it doesn't--there's no amount of bravado that changes this...

2) a 6.5' bed is a short bed, and thus a compromise itself--anything less than 8' will require tailgate down to flat stack modular building materials such as drywall or osb, so 6.5' clearly isn't "the only way to go" when taking this into account, it's just one of the ways to go

incomplete list of pros to the 6.5': more cargo volume, a taller person can sleep straight in it, would accomodate a longer slide-in camper, longer wheelbase would likely offer more stability towing heavy loads, will accomodate some items with tailgate up that would require tailgate down on shorter bed, ie some atvs

incomplete list of cons to the 6.5': less payload capacity, requires slightly more room to park and turn

i like the looks of them both, drove both, not much difference in maneuverability for myself, the 6.5' won't fit in our garage without relocating water heater closet...one thing that's often overlooked is that the taller bedsides on the 04+ models necessitate a taller tailgate, which in turn offers a longer platform when open--so piece of drywall only overhangs the tailgate by about 1" in the 5.5' bed--hardly an inconvenience

next pickup i buy will have an 8' bed though and higher payload...

I had an 02, and have an 05 with 5.5'beds...the bed extender is worth it's weight in gold.

I had wished from the time that I bought my 02 that they would come out with full size beds...I will more than likely be buying a 6.5' bed the next time...especially since my needs have changed since buying my 05. I like the looks of both!

Hi Ben,

Are you looking for used or new trucks?

The 6.5' bed SCREWs are definitely more rare, but they are out there. I have one thats a 2012 (but its not for sale).

Keep looking, or just order a new one from the dealer!

I bought a 2015 Super crew 6.5 bed a couple months ago it took me a couple days to get use to the extra length when parking.
