Blown Cold

How will a magnacharger or the like perform in the cold?
I'm not worried about performance per say, just reliability
during the winter. I want one of these but also use my
truck as a daily driver. Temps regulary dip below 0 deg. F
over a several month period in the winter.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Thanks,

GoneFishin

I would guess the cold would help. We use an intercooler to cool the intake charge. A intake charge that is hot is more likely to cause detonation.
I have had my Magnacharger in for a few weeks now. I have been out while it was cool (20's-30's), not cold. I think it responds well to the cold. I think I will have a better idea when it warm up more. I am expecting to se a dlight decrease in power at summer temps (80's-90's).
Crash!, what do you think. Will cold temps have a good or bad effect? I would like to know too. It can be below zero here in the winter. My truck is a daily (more like weekend) driver also.

Cool

Cold air to a Magnacharger is like spinach to Popeye!

Question

Gents,

I understand the benefits of dense/cool air for any motor,
and I understand how this is magnified with a supercharger.
I can tell my truck runs stronger now when its cool out.
What I'm really talking about is daily driver reliability, do
blowers break down? More likely to flood on a very hot day?
More difficult to start on an extremely cold day? I know the
Magnacharger has a bypass valve, so maybe the rest of the
motor doesn't know the difference until you put your foot in it.
I go from a bone cold motor to highway speeds and temps
in a matter of minutes, does the Magnacharger behave during
a transition like this? Towing?

Thanks for the replies so far!

Thumbs up

GoneFishin-

You will have no problems during the winter! I have verified this myself. I do recommend a short warmup, but just to expand the piston rings. As long as you have a 50-50 mix of antifreeze and water, the blower will be fine. You will also see larger gains. The temperature difference can amount to an E.T. reduction of as much as .5 second!
