Forced Induction PCV

Touchy subject but here is my take.

With the new Whipple and less than 1000 miles I had a lot of oil in the TB.

So, decided to address the boost to the crankcase issue as well. Who to trust better than Ford? I used a Ecoboost PCV valve that is actually a check valve to only allow pressure out of the crankcase and not the other way around. The stock 5.0 PCV you could blow through it no problem, the Ecoboost valve you could not. I got eh PCV on Ebay from a dealer who had express free shipping for $7.33. Pretty cheap insurance considering aftermarket check valves are ~$100.

Part number:
Bl3z-6a666-aa

As for the oil in the intake, I went with a JLT catch can for supercharged Raptors. That is arriving today, I will hook it up with the hoses it comes with, but then replace them with OEM type hoses to keep the OEM look of the Whipple. Latemodelrestoration.com has these on clearance for $99, only 2 left in stock.

Pics to come tonight...

I've thought about doing catch cans on my stock 5.0 but they're like 100 per side. And I don't burn any oil at all? Haven't ever looked to see how the TB looks.

Think you've got a pretty good plan in the works

When I put on my airaid jr intake tube I glanced at my TB on the outside and it looked clean. That was around 13K miles and before I got my X4 from MPT, so it was basically a stock 5.0 then.

So.... take it for what it's worth, just thought I'd throw it out there.

azmidget, let us know how this turns out. It sounds like it should work, and a lot cheaper than aftermaket.

When stock it seemed fine, yeah a catch can on the passenger side would probably help keep the intake clean, but when I pulled the intake off my truck after it was supercharged I had oil dripping out of the TB.

The problem is the boost pressurizes the crankcase which then under vacuum, or just at rest, there will be a lot more air/oil being blown back into the intake.

It was only a touchy subject with one person and he is long gone. Apparently had a touch conversation with his paroll officer whom he attacked.

Anyway this setup should work very well. I'm interested in the PCV valve for the Eco-boost. Think I'll do that as well. I only run a catch can on the passenger side for now.

Haven't heard back from them about my feedback. I agree, a $8 PCV would be worth it to me to throw in the kit.

I put the same raptor JLT catch can on my whipple charged 3v (drivers side) behind the throttle body..
The factory looking hoses can be mimicked with nylotube or nylon tubing (air brake hose) for that factory look..
Here's my build with pics of the catch can
http://www.f150forum.com/f4/going-go...264032/index3/

I ended up modding my catch can with an extra coalesce filter ^^^ (see link)
I wasn't catching much oil without doing this, and some oil was making it passed the jlt filter.. But not much.. This little lint trap filter idea I'm using works incredible.. It helps the oil/water. "condense" in the can..

Any pics of the checked PVC your talking about? Are you going to run it on the passenger side and then run your catch can on the driver side?

Didn't have much time when I got the catch can, then went out of town for work. Glad I put it on though, this is with the ecoboost PCV, it didn't have anything for about a week, then just checked it after I got back. Probably a couple hundred miles.

Just ziptied in place for now...

Yeah, the claims from the mustang guys was that they had no oil in the catch can with the ecoboost PCV. Oh well, can't hurt to have both.

No all of that would have been in your intake/tb otherwise. I bet there would be a lot more with a stock pcv. Worth the money for the upgrade

Forced Induction PCV

Have you checked your discharge hose from the catch can yet to see if any oil is possibly making it passed the JLT filter?
Are you running the JLT filter on the inlet or outlet of the catch can?

According to JLT, and what I thought was common sense is the filter goes on the inlet side. It isn't really a "filter", it collects the oil in the air. I haven't checked the outlet of the catch can though.

Yeah they recommend either which way now..
I ran mine that way and didn't have good results catching a lot of oil if any. Once I flipped it to the outlet of the catch can I started catching around 2 ounces every thousand miles....
I also added an extra filter to the inlet which made a huge difference..
The idea is to let the oil easily enter the can, unfiltered. Then do what you can to keep it in there. The Oil/water aerated enough to eek by the big JLT filter, so I added a pre coalesce filter to keep the oil more condensed so it stays in the can..
Now the can fills up very quickly..

I usually clean the filters every 2000 miles or so
