Engine swap for 2004-2008 5.4?

If your engine was toast, which engine would you replace it with?
Same engine or different?

Original is a 5.4

Would you order an engine from this garage? If so which option?

I dont know anyone who uses them but Twinscrewed was researching them. I prefer MMR. I follow them on facebook and know some lightning guys running their short blocks and in my opinion they really know the ins and outs of the modular motors. I plan to have my 4v sent to them when I do a turbo build.

Oh and I would stick with a 5.4 3v, however I would probably go to the updated 08 heads. I think they preform a little better and they don't have the spark plug issues (unless they just started using anti seize)

I looked for negative stuff on Manny back when I was researching going built and couldn't find anything negative on him? What do you know? If I ever pull the trigger I want to make good choices.

What should I know?

he quoted me $4500 for a short block good for 900HP with my heads reconditioned and my cams installed, shipped

what could go wrong?

I called MMR and for the same they would charge about $7500 for the shortblock and $9500 for long block

MMR offers their MMR 900 shortblock for 2 grand if you send 'em your core and you're a forum member they area sponsor of

all the lightning guys started using Manny, till he started sending out junk heads and refused / failed to tighten down bolts on the motors, then he was charging people for "upgrades" and failed to provide the parts

when I called MMR today they told me that regardless I order a shortblock and send my parts or even ship my longblock so they can see what they can salvage I'd be in for over 7 grand

Manny is almost 50% off of what MMR is asking
Also over the phone Manny inspire more confidence than MMR

I've searched and couldn't find negative experiences with Manny, so far only good ones, can you prove me wrong?

At this stage I have 2 options:
#1 spend $6500 to get a swap and give my truck a new life with a new engine
#2 sell as many parts as possible from my truck (supercharger, exhaust, etc.) and build myself a quick car

so I'll go with Manny, I'll send him my heads, frpp hot rod cams and he will ship me back my parts in a short block that can handle up to 900HP

I'd love to get your suggestions on this

what I want:
-LOUD whine, so I'd love to get a custom CAI
-increased boost, how much can the M112 F150 model version can take? and which upgrades are available, ie. snake bite, venom cooler..

what I won't be doing
-drag racing (for now I hope lol).. my truck is a 4WD and 6000lbs, I won't be dropping it traction will always be an issue and I still want this vehicle to be multi purpose
-rough off-road, I have too much electronic, but I'll rarely go on log roads, I have nitto trail grapplers for these roads.

Manny built my beast and did an awesome job. We had, what I thought was an issue, and Manny got right on it. Turned out to be a clogged cat. He dropped the truck off at his exhaust shop, had them fix it and charged me a very reasonable price.

You won't be sorry!

I got the engine taken out last week and shipping the heads and cams to Manny today.

He will recondition the heads, and ship me a short block (900HP) with my cams.

Any suggestions? ie. compression, or else, truck will not be used to drag race.

this is what I'm being quoted, please let me know if it is good, or things could be improved!

I shipped my heads and he will recondition them and send me a new shortblock

*Forged stage 2 shortblock good for 900 hp
*Cobra jet crankshaft 4.165 stroke
*Manley h beam rods
*Manley forged flat top pistons
*Arp main studs
*Total seal piston rings
*Ford oil pump
*timing chains from ford
*repair both cylinder heads (will be needing a few valves)
*ford racing head gaskets
*arp head studs
$4499 comes with a 1 year warranty

Add: Extra
*Cam phaser sprockets (did not come with the cylinder heads $240 each requires 2
*24 manley heavy duty boosted valve springs $369

Total is $4499+240+240+369=5348+225 shipping to washington total with the shipping $5573

About the same except I went with new Ford ported and polished heads and Comp Cams Stage 2 Blower Cams. We ended up around 9.1/9.2:1 compression. Manny let me buy everything myself as I had a source to get it all cheaper so my end price was a little less than your price.

He is great, you will love the end product. Enjoy!
