So I lost 1 of 6 ribs on my serpentine belt.. I trimmed the damaged rib off the belt with a razor knife to get moving again..

Upon inspection I noticed a good 1/2" of in and out play on the power steering pump shaft. Other than that front to back movement the shaft is solid.

To top that off, I decided to run the damaged 5 rib belt for a while just to see if the power steering shaft would cause the belt to walk off the pulley.. I set the 5 ribs to the back ribs of all pulleys leaving the 6th front rib exposed......Well sure enough the only pulley that the belt walked forward 1 rib on was the power steering pump. I'm now assuming that this play in the pump is what caused my belt to walk and shear off a rib, but I'm still pondering if it may be a tensioner issue instead, and the in & out play of the steering pump shaft is self centering.

I will also note that I'm at over 500 miles now and counting with this 5 rib damaged belt with no other issues.. The truck drives great otherwise.. I'm hesitant to put a new belt on, only to shear another rib off.

One more note.. The rib sheared off right after a boost pull from 20 mph to 60mph, it was early in the morning and the truck was not 100% warm.. It was probably running for around 10 minutes from a cold start..

Anybody else experience this issue?

Is my power steering shaft play too much?

Brothers Performance has an awesome deal on the Saleen tensioner. Works like a charm.

The power steering pulley nor shaft should be moving. If you need a belt let me know. I'll send you my Gates belt. Brand new. I'm going 8 rib so no need for it. If you need any replacement pulleys let me know. Got those too.

So the 8 rib swap hit a speed bump today. I was not able to use all of the parts listed by Batn68. As it turns out in 2007 Ford began using the FS20 Just a follow up to this thread. In 2007 Ford began using the FS20 compressor for the AC.
The pulley listed Motorcraft YB542 will not work on the new style compressor. It will only work on the FS10 model which was used in the F150 up through 2006 as well super duty trucks.

So if you have a 2007 or newer truck and want to go 8 rib you will need the following:
Pulley Motorcraft YB3140
Clutch Coil Motorcraft YB3142
The clutch hub is YB3111. You would only need to purchase this if yours is worn as the part is the same for the 8 or 6 rib set up. ompressor for the AC.
The pulley listed Motorcraft YB542 will not work on the new style compressor. It will only work on the FS10 model which was used in the F150 up through 2006 as well super duty trucks.

I just ordered the entire Motorcraft compressor with the clutch assembly. I don't need the compressor so i will sale it to offset some cost. I'll have a brand new Motorcraft FS20 compressor for sale if anybody needs one.

Dam that looks great.

Almost looks like a 3.4 with that fat drive pulley.

How was the Jon Bond experience?

So far very well. He was prompt professional, good to his word and always answered my calls even on Saturday. He did a great inspection on the blower, provided paper work for it, and even sent all the old parts, seals and bearings back with it so I could see the rebuild was a good investment and that he truly replaced the parts. Pretty cool.

Got the blower bolted back on last night. Belt alighnment looks good. Will no more this afternoon.

Nice work!.. Sounds like your back in business..

What was the price tag on the john bond bearing work? Did he throw a paint job on the whipple too? It looks brand new!

I'm going to be changing that power steering pump. I bought a new pump and the play front to back on the new pumps shaft is about 1/8" ...So I'm pretty sure I found my belt shredding problem now....

Thanks. Jon Bond was $756 with shipping for a full rebuild. That included cutting away the broken part as it would not come off. I was going to have him powder coat it but just couldn't swing it. So I taped it off and used epoxy gloss black on it.

The Metco pulley is MCP2005.

I have updated the parts list for accuracy and edited my post earlier in the thread as well. So here's the final parts list.

6 rib to 8 rib parts list

Motorcraft YB542 A/C compressor clutch pulley 04-06 Models only. 07 and up must use Pulley Motorcraft YB3140, Clutch Coil Motorcraft YB3142 and clutch hub YB3111. Motorcraft GP720 Alternator pulley
Gates 38052 8 Rib idler pulley
Dorman 300006 Power steering pulley
Gates 38028 76mm idler pulley 2each one for the tensioner and one for the idler just above the tensioner
K081265 Gates belt
Water pump pulley will work as is.
Not a bad list. Should run $150 for all pulleys listed above. All found on Amazon.com with free shipping. RockAuto.com also had them but with shipping charges.

Supercharger pulley. If you have a Whipple use the 8 rib pulleys listed for the 3.4 Lightning blower.
Metco crank pulley MCP2005
