lightning swap/ Mike Dunn

Was very sad to hear about Mike Dunn leaving us, I was a customer for many years of his. He helped me with a lot of advice, as I'm sure he did with everyone. Great guy.. RIP Mike

I spoke with him for many years about performing the lightning swap on my 02 f150, never quite having the cash. Life always has other plans.

Does anyone happen to still have his "quite thorough" parts list and swap instructions? ? I'd just like to complete something him and I spoke of so often..

Also his blue 32v was amazing in person, better then factory could have designed. Hope his family are still enjoying it.

I happen to have his parts list, along with my notes

-Intercooler Pump and Pigtail (an EV1 injector harness can provide this plug) the bracket is next to impossible to find, and the Jabsco comes with it’s own bracket anyway
- Intercooler Reservoir with Cap – cannot use with the N/A fan shroud without modification – hence why I chose to use the JLP “street tank”
- IAC Tube , not needed I used heater hose on both my Lightning (when it was supercharged)and the green truck
- Throttle Cable – hard to find, a few guys have used modified lokar cables
- Throttle Cable Bracket – hard to find BUT there’s a guy on LR making ‘em and I’m am working on having these recreated locallyCruise Control Cable – hard to find (can run the truck without cruise)
- IAT 1 Sensor (fits in air cleaner) not needed if you maintain the stock N/A engine harness
- Water Pump Spacer or Lighting Water Pump (IF not using e-fans)
- PCV Tube (left hand side) I use heater hose and it works great
- TB to MAF Rubber Connector with clamps (might as well get a used stock unit '01-'04 or an aftermarket setup)
- 90mm MAF (might as well find a used SCT BA 2400/2600)
- Intake Gasket Set (I reused my stockers)
- In-Tank Fuel Pump In stock (a single 255 lph one work just fine and comes with the harness adapter)
- Upper Radiator Hose Available (not needed)
- Upper Two Intercooler Hoses (not needed as heater hose works just fine)
- Supercharger Intake Manifold Bolts (the N/A ones are too long)
- Crank Drive Pulley with Belt (Boost level of your choice) the stock caged pulley will not work on the N/A harmonic balancer
- Lightning Fan Shroud – only needed if you cannot shave your N/A one down a half inch OR must use the stock I/C tank
- Plastic Solenoid Cover – looks great but isn't required
- OE Heat Exchanger Brackets these mount the H/E to the bumper brackets, I made my own, and am working on having these recreated
as far as completing the swap, let me know if you have trouble following the "how to"s posted here

Thanks for the help, guess gotta start collecting some pieces, all I've got at the moment is the Eaton and the manifolds.

Hi,

I was also a customer of Mike's and talked to him some-- I don't know much mechanics, so I took copious idiot notes on conversations with Mike and got where I understood the swap pretty well. I'm like you-- been planning to swap my truck for at least 4 years and am always either too busy or too poor. I have an '03 and an absolutely HUGE pile of parts. There is a guy on here named Dave Muth/4X4dave who did the swap and sells a helpful vacuum schematic, and the sort of bible of the procedure is Str8tSix's swap thread. Anyway, I hope this is helpful, and if I can help to answer any questions, please ask. Others on here are far more mechanically sophisticated, but as I said I have a great trove of answers to the simple/dumb questions about the swap.
