Upgrade Questions
Ok, I got some questions to ask the pros here. I just made my appointment to get my truck on the dyno in about 3 weeks. Before I go, there are a few things I would like to do right away. Tell me if I am wrong on any of these or if you have any other ideas. I already have a built motor (forged rods, pistions, and crankshaft). I would like to take the shifting up to 5500-5700 RPM's. I do plan on getting a more conservative tune for normal driving along with a performance tune for when I go to the track/want to screw around a bit.
I just bought new Autolite HT0 plugs.
I have a 2.80 upper pulley.
boost a pump setup (kind of a must)
4lb or 6lb underdrive pulley?
Ported plenum
Only other thing I was thinking about was possibly a camshaft, but that would more than likely cost as much as all the other stuff listed above.

+4 pulley is safer but with your built bottom end the +6 should be great with the proper tune.
I have had bad luck with the HT0's gapped anywhere from 28-35. For whatever reason they just go bad and the engine misfires. Change the plugs and it's all good again. They are the only game in town though. I have a stock fuel pump on mine.
I have NGK's in my late year 2008 FX4 with a Procharger and I never do a thing to it except drive it. It is MUCH more reliable than my 2004 with the Roushcharger and HT0 plugs. They both boost about 9-10 but the 2004 is tough to keep tuned and running properly. Coils, plugs, MAF, TB etc...It is high maintenance.

Ok, so here are a few more questions. What brand fuel pump should I get that is a direct replacement? Also where would you guys suggest I get my plenum ported? I would like to find a place that could sell me a used one that is already ported and then I can send my non ported one back. I don't care if there is a deposit on it or not, I just want to be able to do it in a day and not have to wait a week since this is kind of my daily driver right now.

once you've installed a hi flow fuel pump let me know if it helps you not getting lean, because as of now I can't find a way to provide my engine with more fuel
about your pulleys, I have a 4lb lower and a 2.8 upper, dyno analog gauge is reading 11PSI, my digital boost gauge is reading 13-14PSI, I've been ignoring my gauge for now, I'm making 420/520 and my roush blower (1.85L is ported), exhaust is restricting, I'll go true dual soon
I'll be getting cams, and I might switch back to my 3.0 upper to loose some boost

would it not make sense for you to just sell your Roush (1.85L) blower and get a bigger blower? like at least a whipple 2.3L if not then get a crusher 4.0L or something as your engine is built?
because your (our) supercharger is so small, it just keeps heating up and you are loosing efficiency, I called Roush and they told me that after 9-10 PSI the blower isn't as efficient if you increase boost because the volume of air is so small, thoughts?
so far the only official answer I got from JDM regarding the fuel pump issue is to go with a twin pump system @ $1500
I think in an ideal world for those trucks it should be as this (correct me if I'm wrong)

traction bars
lots of boost

I am going to be putting in this new fuel pump this weekend. I am a bit nervous because I cant seem to find any "how to" videos anywhere online. I guess we will just see what happens. Worst case scenario, at least the pump I am taking out still works if I need to put it back in. I will update you guys once I get it in and running. Hopefully this will solve any lean issues when I get my other mods done.

This pump doesn't even look like the pumps that are OEM for my truck. I would imagine this pump just has a housing that encloses everything. Honestly the pump seems pretty small for what I figured it would be. I just don't want to end up running out of fuel when my gauge still says quarter full or something.

Crash, yes I am going to be using this pump. I was planning on trying to install it tomorrow, but now reading what you wrote, I am a little nervous. Heck, I guess I can always try it out and see how it runs the way it is. Worse comes to worse, I can just install the old one. I wasn't planning on installing the new underdrive pulley until right before I take it to get tuned. I will have to call the tuner and see if he can look into this issue a little more to see if he even could tune it with this pump.
Maybe I should have just gone with the Boost-A-Pump until there is something better out there. I really don't want to spend $1,500 on a fuel pump system! lol
