It's time for a larger intercooler. My bubby has a 2005 6.0L that has has taken the stock intercooler out of and installed a Banks power kit.
Has anyone tried to fit one in a 150? would there be a big drop in boost? Any alternatives? I have a lot of friends who run Subaru's and install front mounts, they are a pretty decent size but with slightly smaller fittings (2 3/4" vs. 3 1/4"), curious if they would work. As far as I can tell a intercooler is a intercooler as long as it has the surface area/thickness needed.
Just trying to upgrade with a limited budget (doing a complete 5.0 for the car)
Thanks for any suggestions.

you may need to run a mustang or a diesel radiator (since the F-150 radiator is a tad too wide)
but there is room between the radiator and a/c condensor enough to run it, and was the route I was going to go in my green truck, you will probably see a slight increase in boost and lower IAT temps...

Plastic side tanks, I might get him to mail it to me so I can do some experimenting. I could go to the wrecker and grab a mustang rad. I will do some measuring tonight.
have him mail it to you and grab a radiator from the junk yard and call it a day

This class seems like it would be amazing. I'm new to this site and I am so sad that I am going to miss out on it...
oh really, yes, yes you are going to miss out on lots more when you get the ban stick...
thanks to losers like you, the moderators have to keep investing in bigger brooms

I hope it clears but I'm pretty sure the inlet/outlet are going to be about 1/2 inch too narrow, I used to have the diagrams I drew up after talking to neal and getting measurements off of ebay

I've ran a paxton air-air, procharger air-air, and a big custom race air-air on my cobra. I lost 2 pounds across the board. You'll have to pulley up the system to make up for the loss. I went from 22psi to 19 psi in some cases.
I'm also going to a 12lb pulley with supporting mods. I will be happy with anything around 10psi at full revs. my truck is far from a racer, just want a little more power and better drivablilty over the stock ATI set-up.
I'm giving this intercooler a shot because it's only costing me the shipping to get it here and I think it will be pretty efficient for my needs.

I looked into this option when I was doing mine and I didn't see a way to make it fit. I can't remember what it was, think it may have been the fan clearance or something when I tried or could have been the cooler was too wide. What I tried wouldn't work.....maybe you can figure it out though. I ended up putting one behind my bumper and it is more than effecient. I'm running 14ish lbs of boost and it's keeping the IAT down to 110deg. range. Wasn't much of a restriction either, I am very pleased with it.
Take a look at my pics album. Was pretty easy to do.

I saw your thread a while back, I'd like to compare some ATI 2 core VS 6.0 VS the FMIC you are running and see which one has the best charge temp drop so I can make my decision

I'll be glad to help. It's getting cool here but I can still do some datalogs.
I do remember off the top of my head, the last one I did, it was 87-90 degree day, and my IAT's max'd at 110 degrees on several runs. So you can basically say a 20 degree max increase. Thats with around 14psi, hard to keep an eye on the gauge and the road and see exactly where it max's out.
that's why I datalog and review 'em as an excel document, that way I knows what's going on
