Im pushing the limits of my truck to get much needed power. Ive already sunk WAY too much money into it to make it perfect so it would be pointless to buy a new truck with a v8. I need power now. You can see in my sig what im rolling with but even gears couldnt put pep in my step. Ha. Im either looking for a complete turbo kit for my 4.2 or a good shop that can build me one.
Thanks. I have every tool in the world to work with but a mandrel bender. But next time I go back to Texas I will look up fastlane. My hometown is only an hour from Houston.
well i know most people hate them but the sts kit is for your year, and will work but.... you will need to make major modifications to it since it's for V8s because once the plumbing reaches the engine bay that is where everything changes. i don't really know the v6s at all. so maybe this helps maybe it doesn't.
thanks Jimmy.... the sts doesnt seem that bad... a turbo is a turbo after all. but im not looking for that much work. if i had a mandrel bender at my hands i would be building kits and selling them but i cant find anyone that has one, well anyone that is nice enough to let me use it. ha. i think im gonna look for a shop in the maryland virginia area that can build me a kit if i supply the parts and put it on myself. anyone out there know of a shop near ft meade?
I was going to do this to my '99 when I had it... but being a stupid kid, I sold it and got jipped on an Escape... but besides that... I was going to turbo the '99 and do a remote turbo setup with an electric oil pump and everything then get a tuner. I was going to do slightly bigger injectors too. Possibly try to get an extra 25 to 50 hp out of the engine just for the fun of it.
Might do it on '07 in a couple years after my lifestyle "relaxes" a little bit.
you sold a truck for a teenage girls car? ha sorry but you must have had a good reason.
Yeah... go ahead, I'll give you 3' pipe wrench, now you've got my permission to whip me around a large garage until you think I learned my lesson or else your arms fall off for that dumb mistake...
i understand that... i meant i dont care where it is located as long as its working and not blowing up my truck. I read that people dont like the sts kit because it has the turbo underneath the truck instead of under the hood. personally i dont give a hoot. I would be psyched just to have a good running turbo system. but i was thinking like a nice medium sized turbo like a garrett g4 and all the supporting upgrades so i could still have something reliable and safe. but im only dreaming right now. i have to find a shop up in this horrible place called the north to do it. I really wish i could go back to texas.
a turbo used for a v8 in a remote mount system may be too big for a 4.2l v6 in a remote mount location using the same size pipes meant for the v8 etc.
i understand what you are saying, but the kit will work with a 4.6L v8, he has a 4.2l v6, i don't know a lot about turbo sizing, but i don't think cylinder configuration really matters as much as displacement. and 4.6L is very close to 4.2L.
brazzeal15 i actually think that it would be way cheaper for you to get a universal kit from STS they are about 1/3 the price, it will still need to be fabbed up so if your up for it thats the way i would go.
I actually went to JPC racing near baltimore today. theyre supposedly gurus for anything thats fast and has a blue oval on it. They told me it would be too much work for even them... I dont care about price. I make enough money from being a mechanic and having full military benefits that I can do pretty much whatever I want to my trucks.. Its too bad Im not old enough to have good enough credit to where the dealership would have financed me a gosh darn superduty!!! but yeah i think im just gonna get in touch with vmp and get the custom tuner and other bolt ons.. I know its probabaly in some other post somewhere but what else can i do besides CAI, exhaust and a programmer?
well sell your CAI and dump the exhaust both aren't gonna be need if you go with sts, and if you go with a front mount, than the CAI is worthless. also you don't want a si/do exhaust, or duel exhaust(unless you have two turbos) cause you want backpressure on the turbo to help it spool up nice and fast.
