supercharging my 01 5.4l

ok i have a 2001 5.4l 2wd supercrew and wanting to add a s/c or do the lightning swap or possibly go with the troyer setup, after having it completed i am wanting to actually feel the power and be glad i spent the money i did and know that i have power under the hood. i will get w/e i decide to get installed and tuned by a shop that has a good rep.

also would like to feel the power right when i hit the throttle even at normal acc if possibly if not then somewhere around 1800-2krpm i would like it to kick in w/e is the best. also would like to keep decent gas mileage and not get only 10mpg

and as far as tranny what should i do about that will stock handle fine or upgrade and if so what, i currently only have 3.31 gears or 3.55's not sure cant rember, i plan to add 26" rims since its only 2wd so what gears should i go with as well

also posted in the lightning forum

thanks for all the help

Go positive displacement blower if you want low rpm seat of the pants torque. See classfied for a great start. And yes you will feel the difference. Stay at 12psi or less with Eaton and a good tune. You probably have 3.55 gears. Lightnings had 3.73. If you go Lightning/HD swap, I have some instructions that orginally came from MAD Enterprises and I have modofied based on my experience. MAD is another good source of parts.

If you find an Eaton or another positive displacement blower to work with your truck, your torque will pull great with your stock gears, if you go centfifugal, you'll want the gears as your power won't start until you hit higher engine rpm's when compared to a positive displacement blower.

ROOTS OR TWIN SCREW=STOCK GEARING=GREAT PERFORMANCE
CENTRIFUGAL BLOWER=NO LOW RPM TORQUE=LOWER GEARS NEEDED FOR BETTER ACCELERATION=STOCK GEARING WILL MAKE YOUR TRUCK UNIMPROVED FROM 0-30 MPH.

ok yea thats what i figured, as for s/c setup what is the best bang for your buck basically is what i am looking for and wanting to hopefully have around 350rwhp and 400ft if possible, wat the best way to go about that

and also i want low rpm torque and power gains i dont want to have to have it at 3krpms or above at the worst would like to have it kick in around 1800-2krpm or so, but would like it to be kicking it soon as i touch the gas, but will that hurt my gas mileage alot over something that kicks in higher rpms

so for instant power wats the best way to go

For a 2001 5.4 2V your best bet would be a Lightning blower!
With 26"rims,,you'll want 4.10 gears.
When you get on it it will hurt your mileage but if you can drive it normally you'll get great mileage!

Iv never been able to drive my truck normally since I put a blower on it!

so if i got this wat else do i need to complete the s/c job

That's a lot of money for just the blower!

When I did mine I got a kit like this.
2002 harley supercharger still in crate plus more sc parts

Then you'll need most of this kit that Mike sells!
http://www.madenterprise.com/scparts.htm

After that you will need a tune for the computer to make it all work.
You can put it on your stock block but if your going to want to make over 400hp you better get a built block!
With the stock pulley set up it should be around 350HP.

I run a centrifugal, have plenty of low end torque, see boost at 2000 rpms, run stock gears, and my 0 - 30 would be vastly improved if the truck wouldn't just smoke the tires.

Just a little

so is that a better price on just the blower, and basically since i want low rpm power i need to look into something like eaton, and that link u gave me do superchargers only come with the blower and the top piece and not the bottom piece or wat,

basically tops i am wanting to spend is 5k for the s/c and install

A L-truck swap would be the cheapest route if you can find a good deal. You wouldn't need a 70mm TB either...L-trucks use a much different style. As far as you transmission start looking for a Factory Tech plate, a deep sump pan, and a good aux. cooler.
