I recently got my 07 roushcharged and decided it needed a little more power.
I called Mike Troyer (who is a super nice guy, he talked to me for an hour and 20 mins!) and ordered the 3 tune package.
SO, my questions are...
1. How much of a noticeable difference is there between the roush tune and troyer's extreme tune?
2. For those who went with troyer's 1lb lower pulley, did it make that much of a difference?
3. Has anyone sent their blower to Mike to get ported? If so, what do you think? and do you know who actually does the porting?
I want to gain the most power while remaining SAFE and without having to modify anything significant. (i like my warranty)
Thanks guys.
I am pretty sure if you ditch the Roush tune it will void the warranty. Not sure about Troyer's work but the Roush tunes are very conservative.
Not the same but on my Roush mustang I ditched the Roush tune and got over 40hp more at the wheels.
Also I believe that the blower for the 5.4l is the M112. Which is the same as on the Cobra if I'm not mistaken. And porting it will get you some gains also.
I have the little M90 on my mustang and porting it is just about worthless.
Check out www.fnsweet.com some people over there can answer your questions also.
2. I rode the stock Roush kit and tune for a couple months but, couldn't go faster than 90 mph with my 4.10 gears. I forgot to tell Roush I had the gears when I sent my PCM in. I bought the +2 lb pulley from Troyer and had my truck dyno tuned at a local shop. I gained a ton of power over the stock Roush tune and pulley, but the truck developed serious detonation as I got into the winter months. I ran through winter without going WOT and got Troyer tunes as soon as I could. With the Troyer tunes, the detonation went away and the truck is much stronger then it was with the dyno tunes. Also, the low end torque from Troyer's tunes is like night and day over the dyno tunes. It's so strong, I rarely go WOT. I strongly recommend the +2lb pulley and Troyer tunes.
3. I have no experience with porting but I might have it done sometime next year.
ive been looking at the 2lb lower pully for a month now just praying for my tunes to arrive! yea the stock tune it seemed awesome at first but now i notice things thta could be improved.
well to answer a few questions because i see the famous know it all didnt chime in. i have an 07 but i took it to troyer so i have no experience about the stock tunes but his seem to work great. like i said i never tried the stock tunes. i love his towing tune because once the convert locks it has yet to unlock on me on some steep grades and even seen up to 3lbs while pulling and never down shifted. when mine was ported it was done by steigmeyer i think that is how its spelled. maybe wrong on that one. i know that he says once it was ported he does a little more to it himself. has for the warranty it will not be voided with MT tunes and even going up on the boost a little is safe. i know mike hates to take a stock motor over 10 lbs unless you plan on building a shortblock because the lifespan is greatly shortened. i do have LT and grantelli coils so i guess im good for now. i did everything at once but be careful with the boost i know its addictive but i have a few friends that have toasted motors around the 12lb to 14lb area. 10 on a roush is about as much as you want because it hits the motor at low rpm specially with a ported blower it increases the cfm the blower is moving and allows it to spin up much faster. i know that after the port i heard the whine more and the gas mileage fell off a little. but it made a big difference down low to about 4000 rpm. i would not go over 10lbs and work around the motor like exhaust and coils is what mike recommends. if you have to choose go for the exhaust, coils, and last the port. just my opinion
1. How much of a noticeable difference is there between the roush tune and troyer's extreme tune?
I have a "max" tune from Mike that I run every-day on his dyno I made 410rwhp the AIT's were at 98, as for the Roush tune I have never drove with it in my truck
2. For those who went with troyer's 1lb lower pulley, did it make that much of a difference?
I have the pulley but I never drove the truck with the stock roush one
3. Has anyone sent their blower to Mike to get ported? If so, what do you think? and do you know who actually does the porting?
My Roush blower was ported by Steigmeier Thats who Mike said does the best work
I want to gain the most power while remaining SAFE and without having to modify anything significant. (i like my warranty)
Thanks guys.
I think I'm one of the more modded Roush powered trucks and Mike did a great job with my truck
and as for the warranty I broke the rear u-joint and messed up the driveshaft and roush covered the bill.
1. How much of a noticeable difference is there between the roush tune and troyer's extreme tune? There was quite a bit of difference between Mikes and Roush's. Roush's would cut out at 95mph. I also had LT's and true dual exhaust at the time the charger was installed.
2. For those who went with troyer's 1lb lower pulley, did it make that much of a difference? I went with the lower pulley and it was a great improvement. I put out 9.5lbs of boost with the LT's
3. Has anyone sent their blower to Mike to get ported? If so, what do you think? and do you know who actually does the porting? Through mikes recomendation I went with stiegmeier to have my blower ported it was close to 400 for the work.
I want to gain the most power while remaining SAFE and without having to modify anything significant. (i like my warranty) Your best mods would be LT's with true dual's, Mikes tuning with the lower pulley upgrade and some electric fans. I had all that done except the electric fans and had 391RWHP/446RWTQ in 95* weather.
I did get my blower ported, installed it and I detonated one cold evening with out getting the tune modified. I thought I lost a piston but ended up just welding the plug up solid, but this was found out after the motor was pulled and disassembled. I went ahead and built my lower end with forged internals and main/head studs, had the exhaust side of the intake ported and dropped compression down to 9:1. I increased the lower pulley to a 6lb lightning and with the dropped compression and all the port work I am only showing 10.6lbs of boost at WOT. I have not got my truck dyno'd yet with mikes tune but I do run pig rich at WOT I am in the 10.5 AF/R range. I had an opportunity to let Justin at VMP tune my truck on his portable dyno when he was in Houston back in May and my truck made 412RWHP/489RWTQ but the big issue is the transmission side of his tune is pretty crappy. It is very undrivable in traffic the way he has the TQ converter locking and the boost bypass valve closing. It runs well at the strip but I have a serious traction problem the best I did was 14.3@101mph with a 2.28 60 ft time on a very greasy track. I wish that I didnt spend the money with Justin and just had Mike redo my tune which is what I will have him do when I get the extra cash. so I have been running Mikes tune just because it is so much better, doesnt have the power feel but that is because it was tuned for my old setup so it should be fantastic when I get it dialed in.
You wont be disappointed with Mikes tune and lower pulley you will be like a happy teenager all over again.

the throttle response with the troyer MAX tune is a night and day difference. there is also a large "seat of the pants" feel increase in power, it feels like a totally different car. the shif points are great and also help with speed. i also had 4.10's and topped out at like 90 with the roush tune. that had to get fixed QUICK. ive hit about 130 since then
i also love the tow/bad gas tune, as i do alot of towing. the shift points are great for towing and its good to know that you have extra motor protection as well.
now i dont have the intercooled version so i dont know how that compares...
[quote=SunDevil;3379329]thank you guys very much, a lot of good info here.
have any of you guys moved the heat exchanger out in from of the a/c condenser?
if so, do you have any tips on the bracket setup?
This is one of the heat exchangers I have its off a saleen stang it keeps the temps down a little more check my pics I have a few more on this as for mounting I went out and got some flat stock from home depot drilled a few holes and here it is
