Ford Racing/Whipple Supercharger Questions

I am considering buying a Whipple kit but I wanted to better understand how complete the kit is. Are there happy customers out there that can answer back?

I am mainly concerned with being able to deliver enough fuel under boost since the kit does not include larger injectors or larger fuel pump. I had to go from 19 lbm/hr injectors to 36 lbm/hr injectors on my 86 Mustang when I put my ProCharger on. Why don't I need them with the Whipple kit? I also see guys with signatures that have a Whipple kit and have larger injectors, why?

Thanks,

Roger

From what i understand they are able to tune the injectors to work with the 8lbs that is with the kit stock. When and if you upgrade to like 10lbs you are required to replace the injectors.

The Whipple kit, which is quite complete, works fine with the stock injectors at the standard 8psi. Weazel is correct, in that you must upgrade the injectors to increase the boost. I'm running 10 psi and have the 39 lb. injectors and GT fuel pump added. Running lean under high boost is not a recipe for longevity.

My truck ran great at 8 psi with stock fuel components. If you get a good tune at a dyno shop, you should be fine. The Ford Racing tune, included with the kit, is safe and conservative as well.

Install

Yes, I will be installing it myself. It should be pretty straight forward...

I actually asked my local Ford dealer what they would charge and they said $8500. $5500 for the kit and $3000 for the install!!! I just laughed. I'll enjoy installing it with my 10 year old son.

gotta love a twin screw blower. i shy away from the eaton based ones, because everyone knows that boost is addictive. i run 60 lb. squirters with my novi 2000 on my mustang.

Make sure you own, or have access to, the tools needed for fuel line work. The first page of the installation manual asks you to use the special "fuel line tool" that you may not be expecting. Just so you're prepared....

You'll also need a good torque wrench.

Good luck,

Lee

Tools

Thanks Lee. I have several fuel line removal tools. I had to get those years ago when I installed the ProCharger on my Mustang. I'll just have to double-check the size. My Mustang had two different sizes... one for the supply and one for the return so you couldn't connect them wrong.

Thanks for the reminder.

Roger

I got one through Ford and my shop and it was 4750 after tax for me and shipped, so Id search around to see if you can get it cheaper then 5500. The instructions are kind of bad with the kit, you sort of have to guess on a few things, if you are mechanically inclinded youll be just fine. Stock injectors are fine as is with the tune, but if you want to make more power, youll need 42lb injectors (I think they are called 39 lb though) and a data log tune preferably. Im just starting on my truck and have alot of room to grow with it. Boost is addicting as hell!

The W140AX blower has been available for a few years, and is standard with the kit now. There is a new Whipple (larger) that has just been introduced. It's unlikely that you'll need it on your truck.

well, im just trying to figure out future upgrades. I'm going to do full bolt on for a while and then im most likely going to slap a blower on for a little before i do a full build on the 5.4L. so if this thing is going to be capable of more power then the Gen 1 then im interested. does anyone have any information on it?

larger displacement?

more efficient boost?

what are the differences between the the W140AX and the Gen 2?
