85% increase in power... nice! If it goes into production and lives up to the hype, it might be worthwhile. I'll wait for the second generation version, once all the bugs are out.

That would be awesome! Id love to see the numbers of say a Twinscrew, Centri, Turbo, and 2speed Centri like that on a dyno.

heck yeah

conversation with mercedes_tech over yahoo iM about this

Mercedes_tech: only at "£3,000 and £4,000" per unit.... I think I'll pass !
crash_lucky13: that's NOT bad
Mercedes_tech: I could gear my Sami to high heaven for that
crash_lucky13: for that kinda power and output
Mercedes_tech: in the Sami world, it is ! lol
crash_lucky13: if my currency conversion is up (and i don't think it is) £3,000 and £4,000 that's like $20

Mercedes_tech: wait.... what ?
Mercedes_tech: isn't that Euro's ??
Mercedes_tech: Our dollar is worth like half of the euro... so we'd be looking at $4,500 - $6,000 bucks
crash_lucky13: oh
crash_lucky13: $20 sounds better tho

ya, asked the crazy German who works here, thats the "Pound" sign.... not Euro. I'm dumb

So, that would be $5,475.68 - $ 7,303.86 American Dollars, per unit.

try around $1.95 per British Pound so around $8,000 US Dollars

while it's nice technoligy I'll stick with rebuilding by ATI P1SC head unit with the helical cut gears to silence it down and have it turned into a D1

IR0NS1N I agree and toss a turbo into the mix

They did this since the 1930's...in aviation it's not uncommon to have a low and high setting for a supercharged engine. It's mainly for low altitude and high altitude, but I've even heard of some WWII aircraft having low altitude low/high and high altitude low/high, depending if you needed the extra boost for combat, bugging out of bad situations, etc.

I've always wondered why the auto industry hasn't forayed into this area, and if I had some free time I would've tried to manufacture my own for kicks...a clutch-type setup or geared-setup would work.

Irons1n and tarajerame, how would you suggest adapting this to a turbo? This would only benefit by using different ratios of a driveshaft/pulley...a turbo spins of bleed air (exhaust). Turbos already use wastegates and BOV's to accomodate this idea, while S/C's haven't had anything really but direct drive off of the crank - only the pulley diameters are variable. I'd love to see some manufacturers adapt this into existing tech really soon.
