That depends where you want the power. Prochargers and other centri's are high rpm power adders. Roots & twin screws like Whipple & Kenne Bell are low end, tire shredding monsters. But they might be more $$$ than the centrifugals. I had a Procharger on my 01 SCAB & sorry, not impressed. I didn't like hitting red line just to enjoy the blower. I was putting down 320 rwhp, but that was at 5600 rpm. At 3000, where I spent more time, there wasn't much. I should have gone with the positive displacement blowers like the Eaton off the Lightnings. Of course that one won't work on your truck, only 97-03s. Know where you want most of your power to be and go with that.

A well tuned Procharger setup will shred plenty of tire. I make over 450 ft-lbs on my Procharger and it certainly doesn't need redline to make its presence felt. The kits for the 3V trucks are much better built than the older ones. Centrifugals are more efficient compressors, so while they won't hit quite as hard on the lowend, you can run more boost and really with everything said and done there isn't that much difference. A 12 psi ProCharger makes as much boost when you step on the throttle as a 8 psi Eaton. Pully up the Procharger, get a good bypass valve, and a get a very good tune....won't have any problems except traction. If you are buying a kit new then do yourself a favor and opt for a 3-core intercooler (very worth it) and a D1-SC head unit (if possible). Costs a hell of a lot more to upgrade those parts later.

the stock ATI bypass valve is the weak link in the procharger, I changed mine and it made a world of difference.

my '01 5.4 supercab with a 3.55 limited slip has traction issues with the stock P1SC 8psi kit using the FMU without a tune

I got mine used and I will be upgrading to a D1 and a custom innercooler, if I were to buy a kit brand new from ATI for a 3 valve truck it would deffiantly have the D1Sc head unit and the 3 core then I'd sell the stock ATI bypass and a grab a 34mm racing bypass and a MAFia extender prior to the dynotune
