how many miles is too many for a super/turbo charger?
just flipped 70k the other day. my truck is thru with the mud! want to get more power for the street now. i know i wont have a corvette killer or anything, just wantin to whoop on those little Z's running around here. Do i have too many miles to modify my engine for more power? and what is everyones preference? turbo or supercharger? i had a monster turbo on a Busa and a twin turbo 3000gt back in the day.. never had a supercharged vehicle.. what you guys think? workin with about a 5g budget on this project..

I added Lightning blower set up to my 2003 f150.. Every thing was ok until I upped boost to 14 psi. Then at 125,000 miles, it appears the rings went and the exhaust valve guides. Engine rebuilt (with stronger internals) and ready for new tune and another 100,000 miles.
i did the l swap a year and a half ago. i had somewhere between 80-90k miles(can't remember). no problems yet, and i am up to almost 106k miles. i am only pushing 12 psi, though, as mad mikey said people with the stock block start to have problems with 14psi or higher.
it would be easy to whoop them just get smaller tires! if you still have your stock ones when you want to kick ass put em on. it will look stupid but will help you alot.
I would not go to crazy with boost if you plan on running for a long period of them. Along with the wonderful PMRs that ford blessed these motors with, we got hyperutechtic (sp) pistons which do not like boost as well. That is why ford put forged pistons in the Lightings. I would say 6 to 8 pounds with a good tune you should be safe.
thanks man. thats what i needed to know. so i guess now i need to figure out what i can do with that 5 grand for performance upgrades.. this is a daily driver, by the way.

The first thing I would recomend if that is your truck in your sig, I would say gears would make a huge difference. And you will not have to change anyting else on your truck and would not affect the warrenty on your truck if you still have the warrenty.

changing your gears does not affect your warrenty? i always thought it would.
no warranty. over the miles (i think). just hit 70k. is that over? bought it used, so i dont know..
Most are 3 years or 35000 miles.
So yeah,,,your over.
Gears would be the first thing I would do if it were me.
