What if...

A new S/C manufacturer has just released a new kit for the 4.6L Mustangs, using a Magnuson Generation 5 S/C. Word has it that they are looking at designing the blower inlet and CAI for drivers side entry. Non I/C on a 2003 GT, the rwhp went from 235-240 to 350 at about 8.5 pounds of boost. The I/C kit is making 403 @ 7.5 pounds of boost. Cost ranges from $3000.00 at the non I/C level to $4300.00 at the I/C level. They are trying to gauge what the interest level might be for the trucks.

Any idea?

I am curious if you are ever going to actually make this product

The product is DONE for the 4.6L Mustang GT's. And here it is:

It was prototyped, trial fitted, and is now installed on a 2003 GT, 5 speed and a 2000 GT Automatic. Both cars at about 7.5 to 8 pounds of boost made 385-390 rwhp with the Gen 5 Magnuson. Both cars were BONE stock except for a cat back system. All we were looking for is someone locally who would be willing to spend some time with us to get measurements etc. and then have the unit installed. We CANNOT afford to buy every make and model Ford dreamed up, so we were looking for some help. The truck market would be a NEW market for us, and personally I do not know every idiosyncrasy of each truck, since our focus was on the Mustang GT's.

The unique aspect of our kit, is that the intake runners are cast separately from the center intercooler chamber, so by adding side spacers it will fit both the 4.6L and the 5.4L. Since I own a 2004 5.4L we have a working platform, but we do not have a 4.6L.

Let me know. I did get several calls from some very nice and helpful people, who are definitely interested in the product. I promised them I would make a new post, and ask again to see what the interest level might be. If there is an interest we will build it. All the parts are designed in CAD, but the next step for the patterns and castings is a huge investment.

Evening all.

If you check my records, you'll find that I don't post often. However, I have found this forum to be very informative for my choice of toy, New Body '04 4.6 STX.

Anyway, about this thread...

I was recently referred to Fast Specialties by a rep at Superchargers.com when inquiring about an application for my truck. I called up to Vancouver and spoke with what appeared to be a very competent rep there. Unfortunately, he described the same problem to me that he has attempted to describe here. He needs a test bed. I would volunteer, as is the custom in my state, but it's too far for practicality.

That said, I know my two cents ain't worth much, but I hope you will give support to someone trying to offer an application that has been deemed unimportant by the more established players in this business.

If you live in the Northwest, please consider contacting these fella's so that we all might benefit.

I bet the 4.6 guys would jump all over this, if you produced it. I've seen lots of threads where they wanted a positive displacement SC. Is the base supercharger an Eaton M112?

A PD blower is exactly what the 4.6 needs, more tq down low would be nice. 4.6's aren't the majority of trucks out there, but you'd have the market. I wouldn't need a kit until atleast a year or so down the road personally, but a tried and true, reliable kit would be nice if/when the time comes.

The base supercharger is the new Magnuson Generation 5 with the 3 lobe, 60 degree helix rotors. Monty at JMS Chip who tested one of the units for us, described it as "having the power curve of a centrifugal, and the torque curve of a twin screw". It is still a M112 (1.83L).

We have also had a great interest from the Crown Vic and Marauder crowd. They also have the inlet on the drivers side, so I think we will move forward. If anyone in the Northwest is reading this, please give us a call.

Thank you.

Oops..forgot. You asked for some installed pictures. Here is one installed on an 03. Our own throttle body and CAI.

And a Dyno sheet. A stock GT with CAI and Cat Back before and after:

AFR is 11.5-12 with base timing at 16 degrees, so not too aggressive. By the end of this week I will have some numbers on a 2.8 blower pulley instead of a 3.3 and a race gas tune.

Thanks,

Ron

Question

Ron,

Have you got a plan for the electronic throttle on the newer trucks? I only ask because you mentioned that you have your own throttle body design, and I can't remember if we discussed this or not already. I know BBK is already offering 75mm e-throttles for newer 4.6L and 80mm for 5.4L engines.

Also, what other mods do you anticipate the end user needing in order to reach top gains with your system (ie larger injectors, program tune, etc.)?

Nice pic's by the way.

There are several ways to buy the kit. One is a tuner kit, where you would supply your injectors, pump, MAF and chip. Or you can buy a complete kit that includes all those parts, and it comes with a chip with a base tune. We always recommend, to optimize the tune, you take it to a local dyno shop and have it tuned. For the "drive by wire" we are planning to use Ford electronics in our throttle body.

The kit is set up to make 500+ with what is included with the kit. The only exception would be to reach those levels the fuel system would need another upgrade.
