They whine a good bit under most driving but it's nothing that bothers most people. Under boost you don't hear them unlike a roots or screw-type. Highway cruising the whine is hardly noticiable. Will get you some funny looks in city traffic though.

I have a Paxton Novi 2k and the noise level is said to one of the quietest of the gear driven centris. It is noticable at a 650 rpm idle as a low whistle, and gets slightly louder at 850 - 1,000. Above that it is not audible at all, as the engine and exhaust sounds take over.
I would not let noise level be the major factor in my choice. Everyone seems to learn to love whatever they have.

Truely I wish my Procharger was a bit quieter with the gear noise, I love the whistle that it makes. The gear noise is only heard at low idle rpms. Once you're on the gas the gear noise goes away. What my buddies and I like is the sound on the highway, much like a jet engine with that slight whistle and the exhaust sounds. A while back I was at the dyno shop and one of the guys took me out for lunch in his Chevy truck with a magnacharger and I really liked the whine of that blower also. Personally I don't think any blower sounds bad, just bad a$$.

Hell yeah I second that, I drove into Chicago 2 weeks ago and on the way back it was kinda (considering I have the Roush O/R exhaust) quiet doing about 70 on cruise and I actually got a headache from the whistling sound from the intake (I have the Roush Supercharger) but its cool almost sounds like an airplane. Other than that I like the sound from my blower sounds like a screaming Banshee.
