More bass without a sub (which components?)

Hello,

I have a new 2011 Supercrew Ecoboost that I love. What I don't love is that the stereo is lacking. I have no urge to replace the factory unit as I love the Sync and I want to keep the clean, factory look. Maybe some type of signal conditioner will help it out?

Also, I use the storage room under the rear seat for tools, rachet straps, etc. As I don't have a tool box (and dont want one) so that rules out a sub.
Also put crap under my front seats as well, and just generally don't want to fool with installing the sub. (My wife hates alot of bass anyway)

I know with some good quality components that the mids and highs should be pretty good to go, I don't like very strong highs anyway. But how much bass will it have?

My stockers have very little, and what it does have sounds horrible. I am guessing 6.5 components would probably be the best choice, but I have had some aftermarket speakers in the past that had less bass than factory, and I don't want that. Is there some way to seal off the speaker to act like a box, that would help?

Also, I am not a hard-core audiophile, so I will not be spending crazy money on this. I would love to keep it below $200.

Thanks guise.

hmmmm......that will be tuff to do for under 200$$......i was gunna recomend some kind of sound processor like the jbl ms-8 or rockfords 3sixty but they are both over 200....you could do some 6.5s and improve the sound but even those are gunna be pushing the $$ limit for a decent set....

invest in sound deadening. It might help tighten things up even if they are factory speakers. Also look into the Hybrid Audio Technologies Mirus (OEM replacement speakers) or Imagine 6.5" speakers; 12velectronics dot com has them for good prices.

I've heard the Imagines first hand and they are awesome. I have the Clarus 6.5's which are 2 steps up and they are comparable. Yes, I'm one of those hardcore audiophile types.

Thanks for the replies, I will check them out!

I figure that whatever I go with, while I have the door panel off I will put in some deading material.

I got four 6x8 Kicker door speakers, for $100 installed and sold the stock ones for $30. The bass is much better on these than the stock and really cheap for the value you get

^ HE IS 100% RIGHT

i did focal speakers, audio control lc8i soundprocessor, jl amps, jl subs, sound deading, and an equalizer...

one thing i should mention is that if you do a sound processor your going to need an eq to properly send the correct frequencies to the speakers, without it certain music is not going to sound correct for example sometimes the vocals will become lost, a sound processor w/ an eq is a must...your better off to do what i did and save up and do it all at one time..the difference is absolutely astounding. one thing if you have the sync with the nav and sub the install is VERY different and you must tap in from the sony amp under the center console..i have the wiring diagram if you need.

Speakers free-air in the doors are not going to have any output below 80Hz. You can get great clean sound out of components that are properly installed in treated doors with ample amounts of power on tap, but subsonic extension is not going to happen without a larger displacement speaker in an enclosure.

The problem is the tuning in the HU for the last couple years is REALLY bad. Upgrading your speakers is going to give you a minimal gain. Infact just upgrading the HU will give you better sound than just speakers. I can hear it suck the low tones out on my new truck. It's obviously internally EQed to drop the low frequencies you can see it noticeably between a volume of 4.5 and 5 the sound quality changes a bunch.

Going with a component speaker without an amp and HU is throwing money away. That being said for your budget and other contraints you are kinda screwed. Not much you can do except a cheap front speaker upgrade and see a minor improvement.

I have a 2003 Supercrew. I replaced all 4 speakers with Pioneers and installed a Sony Xplod head unit. Sounds pretty good with no subwoofer. I just installed something like Dynamat in the 2 front doors and that helped. But my REAR speakers are mounted in plastic enclosures and don't have much punch. I would like to find a way to get them to sound as good as the fronts.
My question is, should I open up the sheet metal behind them so as to have them use the entire door for a baffle? Just wondering if that would help.
Maybe some of you experts can clue me in before I start cutting.

I'm 71 years old and listen to smooth jazz music.
