Subwoofer Excursion Question?

Would a box with an 1 1/2 inches of space between itself and the floor be enough room for a subwoofer with a full 1 inch excursion or do you think it would bottom out and sound like crap?

Well, do some math. How far does the sub sit above the surface of the box? I.E. get a tape measure and measure the thickness of the lip of the mounting flange.

Add that to the xmax (in your case, 1"), and if you get something less than 1 1/2", you're good. Anything close though I would recommend adding a protective grill that was made for that particular sub, just to be safe.

Well you know what I already have the sub in question right now in a different box. I could just order the new box put my sub in there and see if it hits the floor or not. If it does whatever I'll just sell it with the box I have now and order new subs. I can say however though that with the excursion of the sub I have and the lip of it does not come out to 1 1/2 but extremely close.

Take into account the weight of the box/sub and the pressure from the seat above it pressing down...that 1 1/2" may be more like 1 7/16" or even 1 3/8" when installed in the truck as opposed to the box sitting on hard surface with the sub in it.

Wow I just looked it up, 25 MM Xmax. Thats impressive. In comparison, a JL W3 only has 14MM. Crazy.
