Best stock replacements?

I have a few questions and would greatly appreciate some objective feedback. Audio systems are not my area so please educate me...

Here's the scenario:
  • I'm looking to replace the stock door speakers with some after market 6x8 or 5x7.
  • I'm not planning on getting an amp.
  • I have a Pioneer Avic D3.
  • I have considered the Infinity Reference 6822cf but really don't know much about crossovers, ohms and all that good stuff.
  • I have an extended cab with the factory sub.

I pulled my stock speaker out and noticed two plugs, one looks like it comes from the HU to the box (crossover?) then another goes from the box to presumably the tweeter.

So...
  • If I replace this with a 6x8 do I lose my tweeter?
  • Do I cut the harness connection off of the wires coming from the HU and just connect those directly to the speaker?
  • Is there a way to do this with out losing the tweeter and with out putting much more money into the project?
  • What 6x8s or 5x7s do you guys recommend?

Any informative replies are much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I figured I would have heard back from somebody by now! I'll give this a shot...

I'm looking to replace the stock speakers and not use an amplifier. What should I do?
