Will 6 1/2" component speakers fit in the front door of a
2005 F-150 or will I have to stick with 5 1/4"?

6 1/2" speaker are a little bit on the big side you might have to modified the speaker mounting. With 5 1/4 speaker will fit nicely you just have to make a template for your 6x8 speaker out of mdf and use the template from the 5 1/4" hole to trace onto the 6x8 template.

 

Or if youre a real amateur like me and don't want to try to figure out how to make a bracket, you can get the pre-made brackets from Crutchfield for $20.
