2 6x8s or 4
I’m thinking of replacing my stock speakers with some 2-way 55 RMS Kenwood 6x8s. I've read many posts that say that the back speakers are just filler sound. Is this true in a single cab truck? Also, if I have a 220 watt HU will this be enough power to get the full potential out of these speakers?

I disagree with the rear speakers not being needed issue. Maybe it is just me, but i like to be immersed in the sound of a good song. And that in my opinion can't happen with out all four, or more, speakers.
My actual experience is as follows. I bought a '98 f-150 flareside reg. cab 4 months ago. It had an aftermarket stereo in it, JVC Camelleon. Having not had CD player in my previous car I didn't have many cd's i wanted to put in the truck. When I did and turned it up a little I heard the rear stocker cutting out, really pissed me off. I did some looking, the fronts had been changed for aftermarkets' rears were stock. so i faded out the rears until I could turn it up to the volume I wanted. Then I felt like something was missing. When i turned it down, then faded the rears back in i noticed a huge difference in the sound.
All that being said yeah you can get away without them, but it sounds better with them. JMO
