Pioneer 6x8, 3 or 4-way speakers sound great, and should fit just fine.

If you are going to use an amp, and are NOT going with components, buy the very best 2-way you can afford. Avoid the 3-ways and especially 4-ways like the plague. If you are the sensible sort who can use equipment properly without abusing it, then I recommend going to ebay and buying some Infinity Kappas, MBQuarts, Eclipse, Alpine, Diamond, something other than Rockford. You can buy them for what the shop wants for the Rockfords, and they are of enough quality that they will give you no problems if you don't abuse them. I personally would rather take a chance on Diamonds without any warranty, than any Pioneer 4-way ever made with a 10 year warranty. Because, even if a Pioneer 4-way lasts forever, it will NOT sound good and smooth, compared to these other speakers, and more so if amplified. They are extremely "harsh" in the high frequencies, which is a byproduct of their pitiful tweeter and "supertweeter" and the so called crossover system. When one tries to play these speakers at loud volume levels, the distortion of high frequencies can be literally painful to listen to. But, having said that, it's up to you to decide. The Rockfords aren't the worst speakers on the market, but you can do better for the same money, and you can do a LOT better for very little more. My opinions.

I suppose it's all subjective, but I had Pioneer 3-ways in a Suburban, and have the 4-ways in my F150 and have been very happy with them. None of the harshness that you describe.

I don't claim to be an audiophile, but my ears like them, and they're much better than the factory speakers.

But then what isn't?

Well, on a stock radio 3-4 ways arent going to sound as harsh, and make the higher frequencies as overwelming, but once you amp them there gets to be a little to much high frequencies IMO.

And like 97f250 said, theres much better than Rockford in the same price range. On ebay you can even find some decent comps. for around 100 buck.

Alot of people like the Infinity Reference series speakers, and they arent to pricey either.

What other brands does this shop carry?

If you want a high quality door speaker stick with CDT. The line has been engineered to work best in that environment. If you build/buy kicks then maybe Imagedynamics CXS series. If you want to save a few bucks I'm going to be selling some JBL GTO comps with crossovers 5-1/4" on EBay soon. I just picked up ID CXS54's to replace them.

Yet another speaker question...I want to upgrade the speakers in the doors for more of a clean better sound, but I would like to keep my stock HU with the 6 CD changer. I have an 04 Screw. Any suggestions? Also, if I need an amp, or could I go without one? Thanks for any help.

I also want to replace my blown factory speakers on my F-150 Lariat. I have a 6-cd changer and just want to upgrade to a good speaker. Then down the road I can do a amp at my option.
I did some footwork and tested at Circuit City all three 6 x 8 's on the same receiver , Polks , Infinity , and Alpine's . All two ways. All were of good sounding quality but the Alpines had the best solid bass without an amp. Plus they have directional tweeters like the Infinity's . Anyway just got the email from Fed-Ex their coming today . The store price came to $223.65 for 4 spkrs. with tax and they were on sale. Got them from https://thewholesalematrix.zoovy.com/ for $ 142.12 for all four. Shipping ,tax & insurance included. A savings of $ 81.53 . They are highly rated too , Matrix store that is.

Warro,
So you are saying that you went with the 6x8 alpines? And, as far as the tweeter goes, is that seperate or is it built into the actual speaker?

Yes, swivel tweeters , but only so many degrees. They are a one speaker unit. Go to the site and check the details. Alpine SPS-570A 5 x 7/6 x 8 's 2-way speakers . I am just going out to start the painful task of removing panels, sounds like fun , but the pics from this site are very helpful.

Agreed. What is "good" is dependent upon what a person has experienced. A person might think a 4 cylinder Escort was "fast", if they had never driven anything else.
