I was wondering what type of reaction the trucks had before SAL & SuperChips were able to calibrate the chip for the gear change? Where the shift points affected? Or did is just register the wrong speed..

 

MN, both mph and shift points are effected as the truck shifts according to mph. You must get chip recalibrated if you change gears or your shift points, and mph will be off.

I asked Mike at Superchip the same questions regarding gear change. The gear change I asked about was 4.10s, the 3.73s would be the same.

Here is Mike's note back to me...

Yes, you will need to have a custom program done to restore both
speedometer accuracy as well as to stop the vehicle from bouncing off the
rev limiter during the full-throttle 1-2 upshift. A lot of guys are doing
4.10 gear changes in these vehicles.

With 4.10 gears, the engine gains rpms so quickly that the transmission
does not have time to complete the upshift before the engine hits the rev
limiter, so what you get is the engine smacks the rev limiter and dies, the
transmission then upshifts, and then the engine comes back on and starts
pulling again. This will ruin 1/4 mile ET's by about a half-second or so,
and is very noticeable. Though the program in Position 1 of your Superchip
is the stock program, we will make an adjustment to that program for the
4.10 gears & speedo error as well, so you won't have problems if you run it
in the stock position. There is never any reason to take it out of Position
2, the performance program, except if the vehicle has to be run on
something less than premium gasoline, of course.
