Improve '03 FX4 handling and suspension?

Gentlemen,

I have a 2003 FX4 supercab that is the basis of an engine build-- forged motor with eaton m112 on it. Before the build I want it handling as well as it can possibly handle. The suspension is stock. I don't offroad much and I have no interest in big tires or raised suspension. What I want is the best most compliant and precise on-road handling I can get out of a 1/2-ton 4X4.

I don't want it any taller but I don't want it any shorter either, because when I do go offroad I don't want to drag stuff.

My plans include:

Hellwig sway bar

Bilstein shocks

Complete suspension and steering rebuild, new Moog control arms, etc. Moog eeverything

Rotor Pro drilled/slotted rotors and pads

Energy suspension sway bar bushings and leaf spring and control arm bushings.

Anybody have any input, suggestions?

Thanks,

k9dr

Yea, everything you listed is good. I'm a pretty "spirited" driver with my 4x4, so the only thing I would add is a panhard bar to better locate the rear axle under cornering... however, none exist for the 4x4 trucks.

The FX4 has a stiff suspension to begin with. I wanted a softer ride so I went to Michelin P metric street tires and Monroe shocks replacing the stock Ranchos. Both made a tiny bit of difference. The 2002 FX4 is noticeably stiffer than the 2002 XLT Scab 4x4 I had previously.

i'm also looking to improve the handling on my '02 FX4 also, instead rebuilding/replacing parts, would a suspension lift kit (Procomp?) make sense - adding an 1" or 2" to the height isn't a concern (170,000 miles, only 50,000 in the motor).

note - already added Bilstein shocks - didn't notice any difference

Generally speaking, lifting your vehicle negatively impacts everything about street handling.
