Hey guys..

so I went ahead and got 33's for my 2004 XL 4.6L 2wd F150. Couldn't do a alignment cause all my ball joints were bad and tie rod ends.

Went to local Oreilys and got a pair of MOOG ball joints. Quick question though...the MOOG BJ's came without a lock nut but instead a nut with a cotter pin that holds it in. I went ahead and used that because the stock nut doesn't fit on the BJ. Anyone use the cotter pin and nut or did you guys buy a lock nut that fits the ball joint? if you did, what size is the nut.

Had to question the clerk about where the dust boot was...lol!! Didn't know the newer ones came the way it does.

Use the castle nut and cotter pin that came with the new ball joint. If you are putting 33's on your truck You will most likely need to gear your axles unless you never drive on hills..lol What is the current gear ratio?

 

hmm seems like it should have a dust boot. Also replace your inner tie rods, they will be junk in a few thousand miles as well. Probably around the time you buy new tires. LOL

 

Looking at RockAuto, those Moogs are $20 ($41 at O'Reilly). The original (MCSOE-7) are $52. Is there a reason why lot of people are using the MOOGs? Just because of price or because of the grease valve? I would surely forget to grease them enough, so leaning towards OE myself.... Getting ready to do struts and at 100k, want to replace them while I'm down there before the alignment.
