Where to find them?

i have a heavy duty 2001 7 lug F150 with worn axle shafts...was told by a shop that it's a super special model and that the parts are discontinued by Ford and can't be found aftermarket

Does the 97-98 f250 light duty shafts fit?

 

Dorman makes them and they are available from rockauto. There is a tag on the rear that will help identify the axle. The larger one on the left is yours I think. I ordered the wrong one and had to send it back and get the smaller one like the one on the right. Except that yours will have 7 lugs.

Correction! Dorman doesn't have 7 lug axles. I just looked!

So you have a 10.25" rear?
Looks like they know they have a rare item from the price. But, if you gotta have them, at least somebody can sell you one. Should be a one time purchase.

I just called JT differentials, and they don't have any in stock

 

For the regular F150 axles, you can buy an axle bearing that is offset so that it rides on a clean surface of the axle not where the old bearing surface is that is worn out. Might be worth checking in to.

turns out - the axle shafts/differential drive just fine. The "clunk" I feel only happens on CNG...I'm guessing the CNG system isn't working properly, so it is signaling the transmission all wrong. The shifts get sloppy and the torque converter lock up isn't operating properly.

When I drive on gasoline, it drives without those symptoms. It still has a little more "slop" in the differential than my dedicated CNG F-150, but not worth spending $1,100-$1,500 to have fixed.

I'm not going to swap the axle anymore...but I will likely get my CNG system serviced
