I need dire help!!
I have a 98 F150 with a 4.2, it has the 4R70W transmission, and I want to go with a motor swap , on the things that are researched in 01 through 04 Mustang motor wont fit because of the bellhousing patterns... Could someone please help me with what motor I can put to that transmission? Thank you so much I'm new to this

Your transmission has what is called the "Windsor" or "Small block Ford" bellhousing pattern. Thus...
250 I6
255 V8
289 V8 - (made after August 3, 1964)
302 Cleveland (Australia)
351 Cleveland V8 (not the 351 Cleveland M-block engine)
351 Boss
351 Cobra Jet
302 Windsor V8
351 Windsor V8
400 Cleveland M-block V8 aka 400FMX (certain 1973 casting numbers D1AE and D3AE, mated to the FMX transmission)
3.8/3.9/4.2L Canadian Essex 90° V6 (RWD only)
240 I6
300 I6
4.6L Modular V8 (1991-1993 first two casting runs only, casting numbers F1AE and F2VE)
5.0L Windsor V8
5.8L Windsor V8
If it were me I would also swap the transmission because that's going to end up being both easier and stronger.

Can someone give true advice...
have a 98 F150 with a 4.2, it has the 4R70W transmission, and I want to go with a motor swap.. I cannot do the 4.6 out of the 01 through 04 Mustang, because that won't fit my bellhousing pattern of my 4r70 , I would like to go with the new coyote motor and transmission, but I don't think that will bolt up to my Driveline, so I'm confused as what to do I want to make a lot of power and have a modern pro touring truck can someone please help me, please.. my dad passed away and
this the truck he left me, so I want to keep it and make it bad..

How much money are you willing to dump into this project?
Your differential is the 8.8" rear and you will need the 9.75". Basically you will need the entire drive train from a donor truck. You are talking about about a big buck project that will require a lot of knowledge to get the computer part and all of it working. Are you willing to take on an expensive project like that?
