instrument change question

before I go to the salvage yard has anyone changed out the instruments in a 94 f150 xl 4.9 for the nicer setup with tach?

I was shopping for a tach maybe digital on a sliding scale to fit on the column and thought it might be easier to put the right dash in.

Thanks for any advice, Cam

tonight is the fuel filter change i am dreading

I'm want to do the same with my truck. How did you search for it or can you share the link to the thread on how to do it?

Has to be from the right year. 92 and 93 will interchange. 94 and 95 will interchange. Some report having no problem putting a 96 cluster in a 94 -5, others have had issues.
You should stick with 94 or 95 to be sure.
Check the part # on the back of the cluster - the one on the plastic printed circuit - it should start with F4TE or F5TE - before you take it home.
