transmission type

Hello forum
i have a 02 F-150 4x4 lariat that has a bad transmission i am planning on rebuilding it but have a few questions on how to determine which trans is in the vehicle 4r70w 4r75m 4r100 ?

1) the tag on the side reads
PKF-CR2
1L3P-7000-JA
180481 is this a 4R70W ?

2) if so how can i tell if it is original to the vehicle because from what i have been reasearchin they only used this trans in pre 97 vehicles the tech specs on the truck says that the
trans order code is a 44U the
trans type is 4
the description is Auto w/OD

Look on the door jamb sticker, if the TRANS code is a "U" it's a 4R70W. About 90% of all 2002 F-150's used it. The oil pan looks like this, but without the drain plug:

Hello, I have a trans that looks just like the one in the picture(the pan anyway) I was wondering if that will go into a2005 expedition. I have a 2003 with the 4r70w. Both the motors are 5.4 and both are four wheel drive

2003 and 2005 are not interchangeable. The ring gear changed in 04 and they added a turbine shaft sensor (TSS) that year too.

Have a 98 F-150 Lariat 4.6 V8 with the 4r70w rwd. I have replace both U-joints and bushing and seal in the tail shaft housing I still cannot get the bad vibration out of my Driveline I took it to a transmission shop today they said that my slip yoke looks short from the transmission and that my transmission has been replaced because it's looks shorter than the original transmission should there is two and three quarters of an inch gap between the balancer on the backside of the yolk to the front of the housing. My question is what can I do to stop the vibration it only happens when I decelerate it's never there when accelerating or driving it stationary speed is there different links in the 4r70w Transmissions?

ps. my slip yolk shaft is 6 inchs long, all others i have found in the junk yards are 5inchs long? is there something that i am missing here? please help!

Transmission fluid

I just watched a video on the transmission fluid Mercon V. The mechanic said which i've been reading that Ford quit making Mercon but have the Mercon V!, WHY?! Its still Mercon. So anyway the mechanic said to be sure to read the back label cuz it says in fine print may not be compatible for your type transmission, or something like that. But the mechanic said if you use this and its not compatible for your transmission that it will cause it to explode. Or the transfer case. Is this true?! Cuz i know NOTHING about how it all works but i know when theirs a problem with something not working right. Like my 2005 F150 5 4L 4x4. After starting my truck and put on the brake to put shifter into reverse, it wont go. I have to keep stepping on the brake pedal for it to come to a point where its loose on the pedal and you can feel it when it reaches that point that it'll easily go down to the floor more and then i can shift into reverse, and it started about 3weeks ago. And seems to be getting worse. Now i chked the dipstick and the laevel was at the 10 marker if you know what im talking about. Would you know why it is doing this?! Do i need to add fluid. But i do know now from watching some videos and reading certain forums that after 100,000 miles it should get a complete fluid change isnt that every 100,000 or is it 50,000?! Or depends on how much you use it?! Cuz its all ive got and i need to take care of it. Cuz im fixing to be on my own again and im guna learn what i can for all basic care of my truck.

03 F-150 Lariat SuperCrew 4x4 5.4L V8 SOHC w/ no 3rd or 4th trans conversion to 4R100

Well, I have a 2003 Ford F150 Lariat SuperCrew 4x4 5.4L with a 4R70W AT Transmission, that just lost 3rd and 4th with no noise, shudder, chatter, grinding or any notice what-so-ever. I just purchased a shift kit but now am not so sure it will fix it. I need to check the servos and shift Solenoids but after reading more into it it seems it is the fwd clutch or direct clutch. Before rebuilding I'd like to know if a 4R70w 2wd Transmission is interchangeable or a 4R100? And the difficulty of doing so.

No, you need a 2001-2003 4wd 4R70W out of a F150. 2wd is different tailshaft and any other year would probably have electronic incompatibilities.

A 4R100 and a 4R70W are NOT interchangeable. You would need to change the wiring, the computer, the crossmember, and both driveshafts. And that's just the list off the top of my head. There are probably more things that would need to change.

C1 981 Airbag Code 2007 Lariat

Hi all. Trying to trouble shoot airbag code C1981 for a Front Drivers Seat Track Position Switch Circuit Fault. Upon visual inspection all plugs are plugged in and wires free and clear from what i can see. Admittedly I m not exactly certain what to look for past that. Any advice or input would be appreciated.

That's not my pan, that's a stock picture from online.

Get a Dorman pan, it's better than stock and the others you will find online.
