Jumpseat to Flow Through

Started tearing down the Flow Through console today to prepare for painting.

Pulled the rear vents and 12v power point to keep the paint prep/masking to a minimum. I think I'll salvage my 12v from my own truck's jumpseat--the one in the purchased console was sorta rusty inside and my rear PP never got used so it ought be nice and clean.

Pulled the lid off the top--it is tan leather, but I have a black/grey interior so I'm either going to dye it black, or see if a local shop can reupholster it for a song. Any suggestions on to dye or not? I've heard many say it will turn out great, but the guy helping me with my project today told me it will run and generally look terrible, so now I'm confused.

After painting I have to figure out the dimensions for the box I'll have to build in order to close off the end of the FT console, since I don't plan on doing a dash swap to a FT dash. I know pa_wolf did one a few years back but he didn't take measurements as he went...anyone else who did the swap use the tape measure as you went? It would be greatly appreciated-if not I'll measure as I go, then provide my own answers lol

More to come...

atom has a write up thread IIRC.

you can buy console lids off of ebay, so that might be a good option instead of dying or having it re-upholstered.

Thanks, man. Atom was really detailed as he went, and another member mentioned that swapping my FT from the jumpseat needed no additional screws/hardware--just 4 screws and swapping my 12v into the new console. That made my day, as I had no idea what it would entail.

Btw, I checked on eBay a few days ago and the only black lid was from Tasca, and it listed for $150. I think dyeing or reupholstering should be cheaper than that.

Off to work I go, but this afternoon I'll hopefully have some pics up as I paint, and I'll update everyone on the price of reupholster vs dyeing the lid, as I have a body guy that I went to school with, should cut me a deal.

Today's progress:

Just got off from work, and ran the lid to an upholstery shop about 15 miles down the road. $25 to get it re-covered in black leather and the latch painted black to match, with probably a two-day turnaround? No complaints from me...

Off to my friend's house to paint the bottom level of the console black, after washing her down with some soap and warm water. Pics to come, follow my pic thread on the Facebook page...

Finally, someone is excited! Guess this project has been done too many times to hold interest, as most of the posts on this thread have been my own lol

Tailrace, did you get the pics I sent you?

Post some pics when all is said and done, I've seen a few of these, but I'm split between finding one of these or an 08+ SuperDuty console as those seem more available

Sounds good, Guide. I wanted mine to look as OEM as possible, plus I got this console for a steal compared to the $3-400 usual I see on eBay.

But if/when you do the swap, give us pics--i would like to see what a SD console looks like in a 150.

Today's progress:

Picked up my newly re-covered black leather console lid today. Highly pleased, great feel to it and looks much better than the original tan lid.

Also sanded the console body to remove uneven spots with 320 sandpaper, then slapped on a second coat of black on the body. Once I let it sit tomorrow, I'll reattach the rear (non-functional on my truck) vents and prep for install on Sunday afternoon....

Finally pulled my console out of my truck and planned on putting the flow through in, but to anyone who has done this swap, did the bracket holding your original jumpseat in also work for the FT? My friend Robert and I struggled to get it in position for almost 2 hours with no luck--is there a special bracket just for the Flow Through console?

Cowboy,

I've never had luck getting pics to size properly on this site (haven't had the time to open a Photobucket account or similar)

I'll post some pics on the F150Online FB wall, if you care to check there....

I believe the flow through has its own brackets. You doing the full dash swap or just the console?

Just the console for now. Pat, is the flow through rear bracket shaped like a U, or a cradle that holds the bottom of the storage area?
