Question Since the 01's have 3.73 gears.....

Could you have an authorized dealership install a set of 3.73's on a 99 or 2000 and not void the warranty? I mean they would be using the same parts as the 01's have I would hope it wouldn't void the warranty. Thanks for the clarification on this.

I'm pretty sure if you have any ford gear put in by a dealer that it would not void the warrenty. thats just what I have heard from people who have them.

If that is the case I may just have to do that. It just bugs me that the dealerships look for anything to get themselves out of doing warranty work. I guess I can't blame them, I heard they get paid pretty bad for warrranty work.

The 3.73's was a rather hidden "option" that you could have gotten from the dealer on a 2000... dunno about 99's...but I read it in a flier somewhere along the way that I had.

Any gear that Ford Motor offers as a standard/option for the F-150 can be installed at a dealer and will not affect warranties. The only problem is the cost they charge for the gear and installation. Oucchhh!!!!

Unhappy

I tried to have my dealer put the 3.73s in when I bought mine. They would not do it, They said it would mess up the computer, void the warranty yada yada yada. I tried to reason with them, they flat wouldn't do it.

I'm having my local Ford dealer install the factory 2001 one gears in My 99 next week. I believe they can correct the speedo.

Up to 3.99 gear ratio. They cannot compensate for 4.10s. If I remember the notes from my chip 101 class.

If one dealer say they will not install the gears for whatever reason, call another dealer.I had a buddy that works for a dealer that installed my 410,(which slowed my truck down) then the 373. The 373 made a noticeable difference, obviously this is the right choice ie the 2001.

Red face

well, I sure wouldn't have my dealer swap gears in my truck. When I put my 4.10s in I took it to someone who knew what they were doing. Maybe the 3.73s are plug and play (same shims and crush sleeve, etc.) but I know I wouldn't take a chance.

Talking

Hey Snake,I don't know which dealer you use (probally Spradley) but Glenn told me that unless it was an option on your model, your screwed. Glenn is gone now, and with the 01's having them maybe they'll do it. Talk to Scott Anderson in the service department, he's a childhood friend of mine.
