My Friggin Insurance Co Just Figured Out What A Lightning Is
I bought a 99 Lightning new in 99 and was surprised that my insurance went down from my car. When I renewed I got a 5% discount for no tickets/accidents. When I traded the 99 for my 01, my insurance went up $50.00 per six months, no big deal. Last night I get home from a looong day at work and I get my renewal policy. Good thing Iam sitting down when I opened it up cuz, I was looking at a rate increase of $265.00 per six months. Me thinking that there was some sort of f*%kup, I call AIG and I was informed that the "symbol" for my truck went from an 11 to a 15. The agent didn't know why the rating for my F-150 went up, but said a Mustang GT has a rating of 20. Just venting!!!!!!! New Jersey insurance suckssssssssss

Time for new Insurance Co. If my insurance co. raised my rates like that, I would cancel on the spot.
I posted back my concern when the Insurance Institute failed our trucks on the 40 mph offset, saying that it was "just an excuse to raise rates on the best selling vehicle in in the world". Maybe I was right?
We can thank safety **** Ralph Nader for this.
Like Gasoline, Electricity and Natural Gas in California, just another excuse to rip off the consumer.

My ins. co. classifies it as a 15 also, a "performance vehicle". My old truck was a 5. Canceling will do you no good whatsoever. Only way to get the rates down is to have it classified as a 2nd or 3rd vehicle with limited mileage (thats what I did) . All the companies i could think to call knew by the VIN # it was a L.

I have my insurance through AAA, and it came up in their system (I was eavesdropping on the screen...) as a Lightning, but it was still much cheaper than the 99 Tahoe 4x4 that I traded for the L.

I'm really happy with my insurance cost at this point. I currently insure 3 vehicles: 2001 Lightning, 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee (don't ask; it was the wife's idea) (both full coverage) and a 1994 Honda Accord - liability. I am 26, my wife is 26, clean records. I pay about $140/ month on all 3. I think the insurance breakdown is about $65 for the L, $55 for the Jeep and $20 for the Honda. Good thing the insurance co. doesn't rate the L like a sports car!!
