Cool Keypad Install Update

I went back into my door and make a modification that will allow the 2 clips on the plug to attach to the door in the same manner it was before the install. To view my keypad install photos go to my album at http://www.zing.com/album/?id=4293851655 and view the bottom 2 photos and note that the 2 new holes are just to the left of the rectangular opening.

I had to drill 2 holes about 6 inches from the old ones at the eleven o'clock position. The larger hole is 1/4 inch and the smaller one 3/16. Since the new hole will be rougher than the original factory hole it will be necessary to ream the hole out a little to get the clips to pop in.

If you do this mod take extreme caution when drilling so the bit does not get pulled through the hole and into the outer door surface. As soon as the drill bit breaks through it will have a tendancy to corkscrew into the hole. BE CAREFUL. And yes, I was able to stop the drill bit once it started to corkscrew through the hole.

Hey Toyman, thanks for the great pics. With payday being tomorrow, Iam going to Ford to order my parts. BTW, hows the weather down in Tampa town, was born and raised there, but have been in Jersey for the past 10 years.

Fast Gator

HOT! HOT! HOT!

90s every day. Finally getting some rain. Humidity off the charts. All this equals slow E/Ts. Can't wait until it cools off.

Last time at Desoto drag strip it was 93 degrees at 9 PM.

Cool

Yeah, I don't miss the heat at all, plus don't know if I could handle it, without drinking all day (Does that make me a bad guy?) HaHa. High 60's this morning and warmed up to 72 and right now it's 67. Two words --- JUST LOVELY. Thanks again for the easily to understand photo's.

Just found out today that the pig tails on the Expedition keypads are different (shorter). BAD BOLT might be able to post some picture of the difference.

Looks good. I want to thank both you and DJY for a great mod.

Cool

FORDSALES,

Your welcome. I have to admit that I have received more benefit from this board than the contribution I have made.

DJY definitely deserves credit for bringing this to the board.

When I ordered my keyless entry parts I found out they are on national back order (D99). I have been waiting over 10 days with no delivery time in sight. I guess a lot of Lightning owners are doing this mod!
