Post Need a VOTE on what tint to get...

I'm getting the windows tinted this Fri. and was wondering if I should go with 50%, 75%, or 85%... I've read some posts about it and 85% being really hard to see out of while backing up in the dark, but how bad is it?
Thanks,
Roger

Hey hey! I am too!

The legal limit on window tint up here is 22% on the sides, but no limit on the rear window. It funny because its not illegal to sell darker tint. However, legal tint costs $189, and anything illegal $289. I think I will be sticking with legal. %50 for the rear, you can black that out up here.

Atleast we dont live in LA where is illegal to have tint on the fron two windows!

Roger - whats ohio's legal limit for the side windows? I'd to go fairly.. probably more to protect my stereo goodies than anything. Who's doing the work?

man I can't type at all this early in the morning. Meant to say I'd go fairly dark depending on what the legal limit % is....

I went with 20% on the sides. It seems to match the rear window tint. The darker tint or "Limo" tint can be a little hard to see out of in dark conditions. Even though it is illegal, a 50% tint on the windshield looks good and saves the dash from the UV rays.

I went with 35% on the sides, even though our limit is also 22% (already got a ticket for this while being pulled over for a different offense, had to go to court, plead guilty on both counts with an explanation and the judge threw both violations out the window). Limo black on the rear--looks very cool and I have ultimate privacy BUT, when making a lane change and looking over my shoulder, the transition from the sun when its on the side to then see dark tint in the rear is almost impossible to see. Also when driving into the sun its impossible to see out the rear. Also on an overcast day depending on the direction of the sun it is also difficult to see. Backing out at night I use side mirrors only. Gee, someday when I'm old and I read this reply, I'll bet I'm gonna think I was really stupid when I was young! (or should I say, almost middle aged)

I went with the darkest tint I could possibly get. I live in FL so the sun is relentless. It also looks bad to the bone. I don't really have a problem driving at night. The tint is very light on the inside but dark on the outside. I think it's that new fangled titanium or something.

I went with "limo" 5% on the back, 20% on the sides, and 50% on the windshield. It looks great. Although you still need sunglasses if your driving into the sun. I was alittle scared about tinting the windshield, now I'm glad I did. I haven't had any problems. (knock on wood) Tint is not legal up here!

I'm running the same tint on my sides that I have on the back... 22% or there abouts.

Thanks for all of the replys guys. I think I'll probably go with about a 75%. Luckily I live in a small town in IN and none of the police agencies have a way of checking the tint in the first place. I do work in Cincinnati, but I don't think I'll have any probs with them either. It does help that I'm a FF/EMT and know all of the city police, county deputys, and a few of the State Troopers. I either went to school with most of them, or went with their kids, so if I was to get pulled over they know who I am and that I'm not waiting in the dark with a gun for them. When I fiurst got my Cobra I went with 35% on the rear and 20 something% on the sides, and always wished that I'd went darker, so I think I'll check out the 75% and probably go with that.

Steve, I'm going to a place called "T-Designs" over in Western Hills. One of my buddies got his windows done there and they look really good. They use Llumar (sp?) which is what I have on my Cobra. Good stuff, with a lifetime warrenty and I've never had any problems out of it. I'll let ya know how it look after I get it on Fri. morn.
Later,
Roger

I have 5% tint on the sides and they covered the back with 20% to even it out.

I put 5% on the sides and back and 35% on the windshield. At night I have to open the back window to back up sometimes, but it is really nice on sunny days.

I put 20% on. It matches the rear.
Anything darker I think is rice-rocket. My .02.

Cool

I'm thinking about doing the same tint on the rear window all around, including the windsheild. Possibly go 1 step darker.
